Music video made using Hedron, software I've been working on for 10 years with @polyopuk. Written in JS, it lets you compose and control #threejs scenes using inputs such as audio and MIDI. Still wild to me that this is essentially just a fancy web page! youtube.com/watch?v=61lHZb…

Why a video and no live WebGL version? The sequencing was done externally using MIDI. We designed Hedron for live shows, but now working on a new version which will have timeline functionality so you'll be able to experience things like this on a web page. github.com/nudibranchreco…

On Friday, we’re dropping our new single on @NudibranchMusic acid-electro banger “Elektrop” You may have heard it in our live shows, but now it’s finally getting a proper release — complete with the trippy visuals we created using our own software, Hedron

@samolus @kaepora @Jonathan_Blow At some point that "spied on" information of yours has to go through your router. Are you saying that millions of suspicious network requests across the world seemingly go unnoticed every day?

@kaepora @Jonathan_Blow O rly? So I presume you have decompiled Windows and can give me a blow by blow of what the kernel does during sleep. Otherwise you’re just bootlicking.

The real reason Windows sleep is so unreliable, since the computer stays running while "asleep", is not to download updates as Microsoft claims. That's dumb, nobody cares. It's so the computer can spy on you for advertisers and government agencies, like your phone does. Microsoft doesn't want to be left behind by phones.

@Rainmaker1973 It's not even a mantis! It's a cousin of the lacewing, disguising as a wasp, with the raptorial front legs of a mantis.

What's interesting here is that a computer did the fun, creative job of drawing Kermit in various scenarios, and then a human did the boring, labor-intensive job of creating shortcuts with custom thumbnails to open all of their favorite apps. twitter.com/dlberes/status…
Damon Beres@dlberes

People will be like, “generative AI has no practical use case,” but I did just use it to replace every app icon on my home screen with images of Kermit, soooo

For me, there is value in the process. I enjoy spending time learning, creating, crafting. The moment the tools take that part away, the joy is gone.
Shannon Sands@max_paperclips

Value doesn't come from the effort you put in. I'm sorry. It doesn't. It doesn't come from struggle, or your sweat, or your tears. It doesn't come from your experiences. It doesn't come from how many hours you worked at it or how many years you took to learn to do it. Those things may help you to put a price tag on what you need to compensate you - but that's not the same thing at all. You can dig holes and fill them in again all day long, but all that effort isn't going to result in anything valuable. It comes purely and only from the demand anyone else has for it, which is often just something very subjective and irrational which you have no control over. Someone dying in a desert values that bottle of water far more than the Mona Lisa. The labour theory of value as an argument for "real art" is as wrong as it is for anything else. Meaning is individual, personal, relative and subjective. Someone using AI as part of their workflow to produce something successful, instead of some other tool, has no bearing on the output People can produce slop with pen & paper, and other people will produce art with AI. The fact that the artist was able to possibly work faster or iterate on concepts faster has no bearing on their aesthetics and taste, which is what creates something the demand for their work. If people are producing crap with it, I doubt they'd have done any better using any other medium

We gave 4yo an iPad and set it up to offer her three affordances: 1. Take pictures 2. Type in notes 3. Text with a handful of people (family, a couple of family friends) The last one is the big hit. And it is *amazing*. It is immensely developmentally valuable. Why? Well…

@pailhead011 This is not the way. You can use useReducer or a state management lib like Zustand if you want to go down the object route.

@pailhead011 State management is always going to be verbose, because you're dealing with the actual unique thing about your app. It's kind of unavoidable. Of course there are plenty of ways to refactor this to your tastes. People just love to complain I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@OW_Photography Had a Laphria ephippium land on me in Saxony, Germany a few years ago. Had no idea robberfly bee mimics existed until that moment. Definitely a bug highlight for me! Also huge!

Finally after many years of wanting to see this insect in the UK I finally saw the bumble bee robber fly (Laphria flava) I wasn't quite prepared for how big it was going be, 2.5 cm Ironically after of hours of checking logs in the forest I found it on a picnic table by the car!

"The only bias in the electoral system should be towards the voter." Darren Hughes, of the Electoral Reform Society, tells #R4Today voters are not seeing 'seats match votes' with the current system, which gave Labour a huge majority on less than 35% of votes.
