If taxes were fair: You earn $100,000 per year and pay $30,000 in tax. Your neighbor earns $1,000,000 and pays $300,000 in tax. Your neighbor is paying 10X more than you. If taxes were fair, you should both pay $30,000, since you both receive the same government services.

No disrespect meant by this, but I just realized I'm arguing with a socialist. No hate, but we have completely different viewpoints and online arguments won't change minds. I absolutely don't want to lose our public land, so don't take me wrong, but I also completely disagree with socialism.

@anitamaxxing @yhdistyminen @davidpattersonx So holding the land because it's beautiful and enjoyable is underutilized? By that thought process we should put apartment buildings and data centers in Yellowstone. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.

That last part is the kicker. If developers push towards land that's been owned for generations, it can make that land impossible to keep. I realize there's no perfect solution, and a level of property tax is beneficial. My personal thoughts are homesteaded land should be exempt, personally owned land should be a low tax (like, if I owned some hunting property or something), and land that is used for a profit should be taxed at a normal, but not egregious rate.

@ganktor @davidpattersonx He bought a bunch of land for himself to use recreationally. Not an investment, then. And there's no guarantee a land tax would hit him particularly hard unless he owned a lot of land or there were developers chomping at the bit to build on it.

@yhdistyminen @davidpattersonx Example, My father in law bought the farmland around him. He kept it for recreation, hunting, etc. Excessive yearly property taxes would cause him to lose his property. Maybe a single time sales tax when the property is sold. Commercial property I could understand.

@fortun8fool My mound was failing a couple years ago. As a last ditch effort before having my excavator replace it, I tried the dr.pooper stuff. Followed the instructions for a few months. It actually worked. If it's an organic issue, it will probably help.
