@michaelmalice I mean they are basically warehouses for computer hardware, what are they supposed to look like? It’s basically an industrial area now, idiot those aren’t very beautiful.

@1lynnanderson51 @JoJoFromJerz Most homeland security secretary’s aren’t trained law enforcement or intelligence personnel. Their job is to manage the organization and direct policy. Ideally they should relevent experience in national security policy, but it’s not as if Kristi Noem had that

@glnott @JoJoFromJerz Not to make an overstatement, but a specialty of Homeland Security Secretaries is spotting it when folks are keeping secrets, so it seems surprising to have failed to notice balloons taped to your husband’s chest, in a 30 year marriage.

@glnott @jawillick Those aren’t typos. The brackets mean that Justice Gorsuch changed something about the original word he’s quoting from Justice Jackson. For example, changing write to writing, or yes to Yes.

@kevsaucebro It does not take longer than 3 years to build a single family home in most cases, but if your talking about urban zoning than yes, it is faster for the Federal Government because they are immune from local regulations on federal property

My grandfather was an involved alumnus at another major national private university, and when he attended it cost $1000.00 a year, which seemed expensive compared to his state flagship school which was $600 a year (just tuition, neither included living costs), when he asked them in the 2000’s why they kept raising the sticker price tuition (which most students don’t actually pay), he was told “because we can, and because it looks good to applicants to get a large discount”.

George Washington University announced that next academic year, the estimated cost for returning students will be just over $98,000 per year. nbc4dc.com/bUubTwh

@BBCNews My intuition as an Attorney is elementary aged children would be very plaintiff/prosecution friendly. They tend to be very into “right and wrong” and rules.

@ColePerryTN It’s true that most don’t, but GW is one of the elitish schools where a decent portion do pay sticker price. NYU has a similar reputation.

Obviously humanities classes should involve a lot of reading, but I also think it’s useful for professors to actually assign what is a reasonable amount of reading if they expect their students to complete all of it. These texts are usually dense and require close reading so 20-30 pages an hour is probably about as fast as you can expect an undergrad to closely read them (faster if you’re fine with skimming). So for a 4 credit college class where 8-12 hours of out of class work a week would be expected, it’s probably reasonable to assign up to 200-300 pages of reading a week, assuming no other out of class work is due like a paper or other project. Keep in mind most college students are taking 16 credits a semester so somone majoring in the humanities might then be expected to read 600-800 pages a week, which is a lot for anyone, and frankly it’s hard to blame students if they are complaining in these circumstances.

Harvard faculty report that they've had to "trim some readings and drop others entirely, switch from novels to short stories, and that it’s difficult to keep assigning reading in the face of increasing student complaints."

It was especially weird because his own Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel publically published an opinion stating this was not lawful. Usually if they are going to ignore the opinion it is not published, or if they change their minds they publish a new one. So the President was taking a legal position that was in opposition to what his own lawyers told him and allowed that to be public knowledge.

I was only allowed to watch tv as a young child if my parents were sleeping (my mother thought I was saintly 3 year old for encouraging her to nap when my little brother was born, but really I wanted to watch a movie 😂), and That was a pretty good incentive for letting my parents sleep in the morning. Of course that was the era when you could turn the TV on by pushing a butten and then pushing another butten to search the chancels for somthing entertaining.

I've noticed amongst friends who have little kids that they are basically forced into waking up when they do. When I was little I remember v clearly knowing that we shouldn't go and wake parents until at least 9am on a weekend, and generally entertaining ourselves in the morning

If you use Hogwarts, though as an example of how big the schools are Hogwarts actually had a pretty small student body so even like the all of Asia school would not be bigger than a large American public high school. So maybe it’s less unbelievable than people think. ( I still think it’s dumb)

Obviously JK Rowling isn't interested in "worldbuilding" and she isn't very good at it when she tries, but this map isn't totally crazy to me. All this really says is that most of the world's magic-users don't attend formalized wizarding boarding schools. Which seems plausible!

I know it's old news but whenever people bring up the world outside Hogwarts I just remember that there's 1 school for the British isles... And the rest of the world looks like this.
