Story time… My wife loves art about as much as she hates NFT’s. She’s the type of person that is more at peace in an art museum than most other settings. (See photos from some previous date nights at home and abroad) I showed her some of the previews from the Grails V collection. She was intrigued, with some pieces immediately catching her attention. I explained to her that the artists wouldn’t be revealed for a few days (kinda like The Voice, but for art) and she agreed to sit down and watch the @proof_xyz reveal show together. She was thoroughly impressed watching the reveal. That’s not easy. This woman has been to some of the most impressive art museums in the world across many continents. But there she was, going on the ride with artists telling the stories of how their pieces came together, challenging a previously held belief system about generative art. The result: She’s moved from a hostile attitude towards web3 to a curious one. I wouldn’t describe her as being on board, but it’s a step. Oh, and one of those Grails is on her Christmas list. I get that @moonbirds are an easy target for online FUD. I’ve struggled with some of the decision making the team has made in the past myself. I’ve been invited to speak in tech spaces and have gotten canned just for rocking the PFP (😅). Standing on this hill isn’t always easy. But this experience was a positive one, and a good reminder of why I entered the project and why I’ll stay - which is more about the discovery of new talents more than my bags. I shared on the Discord yesterday how something @emilyxxie (Grails II) said has influenced a problem-solving framework we now use in product and technology discovery in my real life job. That’s utility to me. And the purpose of all that is to introduce my newest bird (💀) to the world and immediately PFP it as a long-term commitment to the project as long as its commitment to art remains intact. Congrats to all the artists, @kevinrose, @eli_schein, @punk9059, @akasteveyyy and everyone else involved in the production of Grails V. You made a tough art critic a potential believer of the space.
