I think it's interesting that the response from Republicans isn't that this is an obvious lie, but that you're simply not allowed to criticize someone who's husband was murdered.
I think they know what she's doing is in bad taste, but they love it. They love the idea of being able to parade this woman around so she can blame Democrats for her loss and if Dems refute they get to wag their finger in moral superiority. "How dare you criticize a widow."
If you are going to turn your husband's death into a political rallying tour, you absolutely open yourself up to criticism and to think otherwise is ridiculous.

Funniest thing I ever saw at Disney. On a busy night, a little girl a couple tables away was having a birthday. The servers gathered around her table and sang “happy birthday.” One of the servers had a big slice of birthday cake and while they were singing sat it down in front of her. When the girl blew the candle on the cake out, another server picked up the cake and began to eat it. The look of horror on the little girl’s face was hysterical; another server put another slice of cake in front of her about five seconds later.
For those of you who prefer a quieter experience, the restaurant introduced a system where a coaster placed red-side-up means “don’t bother me” and green-side-up means “bring it on.” The menu for breakfast is available until 2:00 pm, so if you’re a late riser and want to pack on carbs for an afternoon at the park, you’re good.
