@PippaCrerar Nice spin there Pippa but it's not going to save him. Do you *really* think the FO wouldn't mention this to Starmer after his responses in the House? You're a journalist, start investigating rather than pushing pro-Starmer propaganda.

Peter Mandelson’s appointment was a political one and FCDO knew that Keir Starmer/ Morgan McSweeney wanted it to happen even though the due diligence process had raised red flags. Olly Robbins’ response to this question gives, I think, an insight into why he overruled the security vetting decision: “The PM took advice and took a view himself and we then acted on that view”. What it doesn’t explain is why he didn’t flag security concerns over Britain’s top diplomatic appointee with No 10 - or if he told officials why they didn’t share with the political side of operation.

At a @CommonsForeign session in November 2025, I directly asked Sir Oliver Robbins whether the FCDO had a different view of who should be recommended for the posting of US Ambassador. His response? "It was clear that the Prime Minister wanted to make this appointment himself."

NEW: Yvette Cooper and her office only became aware that Peter Mandelson had failed security vetting when approached by the Guardian on Thursday, I’m told. The foreign secretary then spent evening in FCDO and Downing Street with the PM where she spoke to Sir Olly Robbins. They concluded he could no longer continue in post. It means that Cooper, Lammy, McSweeney, Mandelson and the PM himself all now saying they had no clue.

MUST WATCH: Olly Robbins confirms that Starmer personally chose Mandelson and that the FCDO was told to make it happen. Security officials said he shouldn’t get clearance. They were overruled. Starmer then told the public Mandelson had “clearance for the role.” He must he take responsibility and resign.

This is it, the knockout moment that proves beyond any doubt that Starmer is lying through his back teeth.

A year on from the Supreme Court ruling, trans people have faced a wave of exclusions at work, in sports clubs and in everyday public life. Gender-critical activists have also been emboldened to drag inclusive organisations through the courts. The government must scrap the EHRC’s guidance and legislate that all single-sex spaces are trans-inclusive by default. A clip from my speech in this year's LGBTQ+ History Month debate in Parliament:

@hjluks I do squats on a balance ball to address exactly this. You only need to use dumbells as it's all about keeping the neural pathway from your brain quick and adaptive rather than strength. Try it with bells over your head, that pushes your coordination skills.

Progressive overload still works at 63. My bench rivals my thirties. We really don't lose much strength. The bad news: power — the speed, the explosiveness — is slipping despite consistent training. That gap between strength and power is the most important thing I learned this year. And it changed everything about why I train the way I do. Squatting over 225 is great... but if those strong legs can't move quickly to stop you from falling???

Another year of training... what worked, what didn't, what had to change... A thread. Last year, I wrote the most detailed account I've ever published of how I train at 62. Well.. I'm turning 63 — now an update: what held, what broke, what surprised me, and the annoying realities of being an aging athlete.

EXC: UK military chiefs have been asked to find £3.5bn in "efficiencies" and other savings this financial year, even as Sir Keir Starmer says he is readying his armed forces for war, sources have signalled to Sky News. As we revealed on the podcast this morning, heads of the army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and other top brass were due to meet early this week to discuss the funding pressures. There's a £28 billion funding gap in the MOD budget over 4 years. #liveblog-body" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">news.sky.com/story/politics… First heard on Politics at Sam and Anne's. Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away, across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spell

I stopped bench pressing for years… …and still kept a 200 lb bench. What did I do instead? Ring push-ups + band resistance. Better for your shoulders. More stability. Less equipment. 2–4 sets 5–20 reps
