Geothermal energy is ready for prime time. The next step to bring it onto the grid is for utilities and PUCs in the west procure it in their integrated resource plans. New report from CPE on what utilities thinking about geothermal need to know to bring new firm power online.

SECRETARY OF ENERGY @SecretaryWright CALLS FOR RESTART OF INDIAN POINT This remains the fastest way to get reliable, emissions-free power on the grid in downstate New York, one of the most energy-constrained parts of the country. Closing it was a terrible mistake. It can be undone.

Two new papers claim nuclear plants increase cancer risk. That sounds alarming. But they are not studies of radiation exposure. They are studies of geographic proximity and do not provide valid results. 🧵

“I tell people she’s off the charts in terms of sass. So that’s possibly from the radiation, but other than that, no indication of glowing green or super strength,” @MadiHilly joked.

In the past, forests around the world were cut down on a massive scale around the world — but this is no longer the case. Deforestation continues in large parts of South America and Africa, while the forested area has expanded in Europe, North and Central America, and large parts of Asia.

@PeteSikora1 It has something to do with solar irradiation as well. See NREL chart. Infinite money/resources would be able to compensate, but politicians cannot simply deny physics (which drive economics). eia.gov/energyexplaine…

Insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result. Reactors similar to Aalo's design have been built before, and had issues. Why will this time be different? 🧵

I’m a bit scared. Last night after dinner I had an idea for a novel. I brainstormed it with AI in about 2 hours (world building, characters, outline with scenes, tone of voice). This morning AI wrote the novel in about 3 hours. It asked me some questions and wouldn’t continue without me providing input (I just said yes to everything it suggested), otherwise it would have been done in an hour I think. Because I had a flight to catch, I sent the book to my Kindle and I just read the first 40 pages or so while on a flight. It is so unbelievably good, exactly what I had in mind, but even better. I can’t put it away, I don’t even know the details of how it ends yet. I may even publish it on Amazon under a pseudonym and he see how well it does. We have no idea what we have created with LLMs. I am literally scared to read this book, it is better written than I could have ever done it myself. There are details of my own life in there that I wasn’t even aware of that AI could know them (a description of a very specific chair that I have in my house for example). The detailed storyline was almost completely created by AI. It knows exactly the tone I was looking for, what details I’d use in descriptions and how to keep me interested in the rest of the story. It reads like I could have written this myself, or like what I would have aimed to write. I recognise my own thoughts in it, even things I could have said myself, it’s hard to describe (maybe I should let AI write this tweet as well). People who say AI is in a bubble have no clue. I literally have no words for this. And this is just the beginning…

@AlexCKaufman Is thjs also a function of scale? Hyperscale and AI datacenters have much higher rack density and MW capacity than small / midsize ones. What's the chart source?

We hear a lot about data centers, their cooling systems, and how much water it takes to keep servers from overheating. Until finding this chart, however, I hadn't seen anything that spelled out how different data centers choose different cooling technologies. Data centers that specialize in AI software, for example, are using a dramatically different mix than hyperscalers.

"Most New Yorkers don’t even know we have three operating nuclear plants upstate. Why? Because they’re boring… and in this case, that’s a high compliment.” Sean E., of the NYS Executive Chamber, took to the stage at @NEI's Nuclear Financing Summit earlier this week.
