@PeterSweden7 I needed a GenX husband who didn't think I was a lazy slacker for wanting to stay home to raise my own children until they were in school and make the necessary lifestyle sacrifices to achieve this goal. That isn't what we were taught in Canada.

It's not climate change. The falling birth rates is actually the biggest problem that humanity faces right now. How do we solve this and encourage people to have more children? Give me your best ideas 👇

@HolsLocker @athenaeumbc I read the one in his photo and it was painful except for short passages. There must be a better translation without people in "ecstasy" all the time, which makes no sense in English. My hopes for P&V is crushed by your post.

@athenaeumbc What’s your recommended translation for Dostoyevsky? I did P&V for Crime and Notes from Underground, but saw that Katz is a good “modern translation.” I’m thinking I might try that one out for Brothers, but I worry “modern” translations will sanitize the original writing.

Lots of people don't know this but you can actually fix your attention span just by reading one long, phenomenal book again. I recommend The Brothers Karamazov.

@athenaeumbc I read this version read aloud almost unreadable passages to my husband, who had just read it in Romanian, and his face, at hearing the English translation, said I needed to buy and read another version immediately. But which translation?

@RFboris Sau cartofi 10 lei / kg.

@AnetteRombout 12 years ago we did the same. We built a house in Canada, sold 2 weeks after finishing it and moved to Romania. I love it here, the life is wonderful.

12 years ago I walked into my boss’s office, 54 years old, and resigned the job I loved a lot. Me and my husband had just bought our house in Abruzzo, Italy 🇮🇹 and after having spent a few weekends there we realised that we didn’t want to leave. So we both quitted our jobs and started a journey into the unknown. What a lifestyle, what a change of perspective and not one minute of regret. Family, friends, our dog Ruby, a good gym, a lot of walking, running and reading, the vegetable garden, cooking, nice restaurants and the never ending process of trying to beat the market keeps us fresh. I am so grateful that I dared and that we took the chance.

@VersoEuropa And despite 1000+km of highway, STILL no highways crossing the country from east to west or north to south, just billions in debt to show for nothing.

@Matador_X6 @agNavya My coworker Majid created paintings that ripped my heart out. He would not sell them. Farnaz was the kindest person we worked with. Nothing could make me, a Canadian, think poorly of them.

There's no difference between an Arab and a non-Arab.. It's the piety of the heart and our actions that matter to God, not the color of our skin or differences in our cultures.. I've interacted with some nice Persians as well.. I was merely pointing out that they're two cultures with two different literary work..

@Matador_X6 @agNavya Najib Mahfouz's Cairo Trilogy has been purchased on Amazon Kindle, many thanks. Should you wish to know the about Romania (or Canada where I was born), I am happy to answer.

Persia is an entirely different culture than Arabs.. :) Hmmmm.. I guess from the more modern authors you can look up Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani's books (Men in the Sun) or (Returning to Haifa).. Perhaps Egyptian author Najib Mahfouz's "The Cairo Trilogy: Palace Walk, Palace of Desire, Sugar Street" or "Children of the Alley".. There's a lot more.. But start there and see how you like translated Arab literature..
