In my book, Start-Up Century, I bet that we’d see the first one-person businesses doing $Bs in sales by the end of the decade, thanks to a combination of AI & shifting work cultures. Seems I was too pessimistic on the timeline! AI gives you super powers.

There are many different views on what a future, AI-driven economy will look like. Some think each country must effectively 'own' privately-funded, closed-source companies through nationally directed legal and export controls. Some think the Government should develop and fund open-source models and chips themselves, subsidising them to win globally. I firmly believe it's the approach below that will provide the best products and most resilient economies. Best in class companies in their respective fields, collaborating globally, to build something better. Great to see @wayve_ai at the forefront of this.

Big news from Tokyo 🇯🇵 @Uber and @NissanMotor and @wayve_ai have signed an agreement to deploy supervised robotaxis in Tokyo from late 2026, bringing the Nissan Leaf powered by the Wayve AI Driver to riders through Uber. This is what scalable autonomy looks like: • OEM-native integration - no retrofit. Nissan is designing the vehicle for mass production, with hardware sourced from global automotive supply chains. • AI-first autonomy - a single AI Driver designed to generalise anywhere across Tokyo without mapping. • Collaborative and scalable path to autonomy - together, we combine intelligence, engineering and distribution. Tokyo is an exciting city for us to deploy our embodied AI. It’s a city with sophisticated mobility options and high safety standards. I loved testing our autonomy here this week. We’ve been public road testing and working closely with local authorities since early 2025. Looking forward to working alongside great leadership of Ivan Espinosa, Sarfraz Maredia and @dkhos. Big efforts ahead. 🙌

@Jameswise @UKSovereignAI £500m to support founders. But what happens when Treasury approvals, due diligence, and a 14-month procurement cycle mean the cheque arrives after they've already moved to San Francisco and raised a Seris B?

It’s only nuclear fusion if it’s spun out of the Max Planck institute, everywhere else it’s just sparkling plasma. Congrats to @balderton backed @proximafusion. A step closer to the cheapest, cleanest energy source we have.
Seb Johnson@SebJohnsonUK

A German startup has just signed an agreement to build the world’s FIRST nuclear fusion plant. @proximafusion has signed an MOU securing €400m from its home state of Bavaria to build the €2bn plant. The rest of the funding is expected to come from the federal government. Proxima Fusion is hoping to get the plant up and running by the early 2030s. It comes at a time when Europe’s energy security is being scrutinised more than ever. Germany in particular has been criticised for closing down all of its nuclear power plants, but this could see the country become a global energy powerhouse. Backed by Wilbe, Cherry Ventures and Balderton, Proxima has become one of Europe’s most exciting companies. If this works Proxima could truly become a trillion dollar company. It is AMAZING to see European founders building the most exciting, and potentially impactful, technologies in the world.

This @Citadel article (link below) is excellent on the short & medium term impact of AI. It's the antidote to the doom ridden and often economically illiterate articles that have dominated a lot of discussion recently. AI adoption is happening, in some sectors more than others. And it will create alot of disruption. But.... Assuming people will just stand still and not innovate in the face of such change is to take an astonishingly naive bet against humanity. Assuming people's desires can be fulfilled by more software, and that demand won't grow, is to take an astonishingly naive approach to technological history. Assuming AI will suddenly solve problems in the real economy - those of housing shortages, energy regulation, rising food and commodity prices and geopolitical instability, is to take an astonishingly naive approach to political economies. John Maynard Keynes was probably the greatest economist of his era, and he called the 15-hour work week wrong by an order of magnitude. An occasional equities analyst on X isn't going to do better. The greatest risk remains that the doom-mongerers win, and we fail to seize on the potential of new technologies, by under-estimating our ability to deal with the negatives.
