The justice for victims isn't delivered in the way of the death of the perpetrator, but with the just trial that delivers the sentence, and the adequate carrying out of the sentence.

The trial court ruled that “standalone claims of actual innocence are not cognizable in postconviction proceedings” and “the denial of postconviction claims of actual innocence does not violate the Eighth Amendment.” In Florida, being innocent is not grounds to stop an execution.

Of course, if incompetent of the crime itself, they should be ruled innocent for mental reasons.

Wood's state PCR was denied but he still hasn't filed in federal district court yet - he has until January 2027 to do so.
