NZS is HIRING for an IT and investment analytics associate position in Denver. This is an exciting opportunity to add value to a growing $3B+ AUM boutique asset manager. nzscapital.com/jobs

Check out NZS's new-ish secret weapon @blarsonbrf reviewing Trane Technologies on @bizbreakdowns
Matt Reustle@ReustleMatt

Trane Technologies? This company embodies the irresistible allure of industrial pureplays Thank you to Brett Larson and @NZSCapital for bringing this one to @bizbreakdowns ▫️ $50bn market cap (TT) yet rarely discussed ▫️ 100+ year history of between independence and "conglomeration"(Ingersol) ▫️ Epic father + son founder combo with James and Reuben Trane ▫️ Textbook equipment vs. aftermarket mix-shift story (~70%/30%) ▫️ Resi vs. Commercial segments highlights unique demand dynamics ▫️ Customer cost is split: 10% equipment, 10% maintenance, 80% energy costs (...think about how that drives pricing vs product considerations) ▫️ Secular opportunities (decarbonization) in what you'd assume is a cyclical industry ▫️ Operating system comes with Toyota DNA and 25% incrementals BONUS points: 👁‍🗨Rebranding HVAC as "climate control" is worth a 20% premium. No questions asked 👁‍🗨Reuben started career at Milwaukee Tools in 1910... fun to think about the "resume building corporations" of yesteryear

What the market is expressing today was an extremely unpopular opinion just 6 months ago. It's important to stay long term focused, whether the market is way up or way down. You're not as dumb as you think at the bottom or as smart as you think at the top. youtube.com/watch?v=hp4LjF…

@bernardgolden Always worth listening to the dissenting view 🤓 I think the last point Chris Miller makes in the article about economics is the most important, to me that risk is harder to over come than technical barriers.

Excellent article and appreciated your contribution. Wonder if you have a view on the skeptical analyst who maintains ASML will be unable to make next-gen tech work.
Jon Bathgate@jbathgate

Enjoyed talking to @ianmking for this excellent Bloomberg article about ASML's rise and their unique position amidst the geopolitical tensions in semiconductor land.

I felt embarrassingly dumb defending the long term outlook for tech/chips on CNBC back in September. I wasn't as dumb as I felt that day, but also I know that I am nowhere near as smart as I might feel now. The best ROI is always on humility. cnbc.com/video/2022/09/…

@stonkmetal The flip-side to be aware of are companies like Belden and Colfax (now Enovis) that were run by ex. DHR folks and tried to replicate the DBS but couldn’t quite execute on the playbook.

What are some smaller companies led by previous executives at legendary compounders? Some examples are $ATKR $SOON, both led by ex $DHR execs and cloning the DBS. What else is there?

@trengriffin @FoolAllTheTime It was reported that Combs bought INTC back in 2011 so neither was Warren, which is why I didn't mention him at all in the last post. I just think it's a funny artifact of history that Berkshire has made a quick buck in semis twice, as I said it's out of character for them

Not the first time Berkshire has traded semis well with an uncharacteristically short holding period. They may have missed their calling in just being semi cycle junkies 😂

$NFLX Ted Sarandos on co-CEO companies' track record: "Statistically it is actually pretty great. If you compare performance against the S&P, it’s really strong." What are some examples of successful companies with co-CEOs? Unsuccessful?

I can't comment on forward earnings but when I read this what jumped out his how epic the 118% cut to earnings estimates was in the GFC, that was special. @tculpan is one of the best journalists in semi land btw

“On average, 24-month forward earnings estimates for the SOX have been trimmed by 17% since a peak in the first quarter of 2022.” @bjohns3 and @jbathgate is this enough of a cut? bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

This isn't what @AcquiredFM does, but some podcast should do a deep dive on how a brand-damaging redesign like this can make it out the door.
