Let’s think about this for a minute: HMS Invincible (light carrier): sold for scrap in 2011 HMS Hermes (light carrier) sold to India in 1986 Type 42 destroyer: retired 2013 HMS Antrim (destroyer) sold to Chile in 1984 Type 21 frigate: retired 1990s RFA Sir Galahad (landing ship): retired 1988 Royal Navy FAA Sea Harrier FRS1: retired 2006 The British could 100% NOT prevent Argentina from retaking the Falklands bc Britain doesn’t have a military to speak of.
OSINTdefender@sentdefender

Argentina seems to have forgotten what happened the last time they attempted to seize the Falkland Islands from Britain.

@DavidVance We can't remove Spain. But we can remove us. Simply close our bases, take our stuff, and go home.

America asked allies to maintain a minimum level of military capability. For a decade, NATO allies refused to do that and instead spent on generous social programs while mocking the US for not doing the same. All while living under the protection of the US military. 2/3

There were less than 100 personnel in town during the Falklands invasion. Now there is around 1,000 personnel at a dedicated airbase, with several infantry companies, support units, a Typhoon detachment, Sky Sabre fire group, offshore patrol vessel etc. Backed up by 700,000 sheep and 1 million penguins.

Britain could lose the Falklands because of weak leadership. It's not the 80s anymore, there's no Thatcher in charge and the UK is a depressing shell of its former self. If Argentina simply walks in and takes over, possibly soon with Trump's approval, what exactly will Keir Starmer do? Send an angry worded letter? Would he even care at all?

Here's my take. Trump trying to use the Falklands as leverage against Britain is not a smart move. I have huge respect for America and many good friends across the pond, and I would still vote for Trump RIGHT NOW. But this kind of pressure will only damage the Special Relationship even further, and we all know Starmer has already done enough damage on his own. The lefties in Britain already hate America and Trump - this won’t change that. The real danger is that patriotic Brits will start turning against you too. This needs to be thought out properly, by all sides. The British people will not tolerate this.
British Intel@TheBritishIntel

I said it then. I'll say it again The Falklands are British territory - defended with British blood in 1982. We are being openly tested because they sense weakness in London. Britain must make it crystal clear: The Falklands are ours and will remain ours forever.

@WotBuwcheeks How are you going to get those RAF aircraft over there again? I’m not for Argentina taking the Falklands, but I am a realist. BTW, I will give a much bigger shit about the UK when you people start giving a shit about your own country.

@masonq33 @bull_feath95552 @VakarisSan There is no one in the current government that believes in a 2SS and wants to annex the West Bank without citizenship for Palestinians. The only thing blocking it is the USA.

@bull_feath95552 @VakarisSan Many leftists act as if this is a very popular idea and the longstanding official policy of the Israeli gov. That is insane

@VakarisSan Leftists? Israeli officials themselves are pushing for greater Israel. It’s actually the Israeli far right that wants it the most.

@VakarisSan I mean securing a major front was worth it no? Israel would never do that with territory they actually wanted which is the West Bank, Lebanon, and golan.

Republicans have not done any meaningful damage to transatlantic relations. Europeans are just Democrats. They are much more socialist than the median American, and have been for decades. It really isn’t much more complicated than that.
arctotherium@arctotherium42

This is just a flat lie. Trump's approval in Europe, right now, is almost identical to what it was in 2017 before he'd done anything at all. Truth Social posts from Jan 2026 can't time travel.
