@RealSeanithan Cooper Sharp would be my preference, but at the end of the day, the thing that makes American cheese "American" is sodium citrate, which is why it melts so well. American cheese is just solidified cheddar and colby jack sauce, and shockingly easy to make at home.

When someone says, "Burgers need American cheese because of how well it melts and is prefect for burgers," I don't trust their opinion on anything food-related at all, much less burgers: if you're willing to defile your burger with that awful flavor just for the nice melting, you make it clear you don't actually care about your food or how it tastes.

Also, the wide majority of Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK serve French food, not British fare.
