As someone who worked at Reality Labs: the Metaverse had real legs but was obliterated by middle management completely out of touch with how young people actually use technology. I built a V1 tool that game developers genuinely needed, and the moment it was done, it got shipped to a team in London (to die), and I was reassigned to a "higher-priority project" that zero developers asked for. Multiply that by every team, and you'll understand why this never took off yet cost 80 billion.

JUST IN: Meta announces they'll be shutting down the Metaverse, after pouring $80,000,000,000.00 into the project.

THIS is one of the BIGGEST issues with beginner and junior devs. Not shaming anyone here. Nothing to feel shameful about. The hope is that people can learn from this and avoid making this mistake, ESPECIALLY in a professional environment. This is a prime example of bad communication and why I say this is a big deal. You ask for help. When a suggestion is presented your immediate response is "Did that already" How many times do you imagine that back-and-forth going on before people give up because they can't predict what you may have tried? This is a big issue with many juniors. It would have been a lot better if you said "Struggling to install the next js app. Tried, X and it still produced this error Tried Y and saw this error about Babel Tried Z and it resulted in something else. Currently trying ABC to see if it yields different results." Then developers can have a better idea of where to direct you. Hope this helps you realize how you should form questions so people can help.

Want to learn the basics of Machine Learning directly from a Data Scientist? Well, now you can. This course teaches you some of the main ways engineers use key ML techniques, plus you'll learn about overfitting & underfitting data. Find it on freeCodeCamp's YouTube channel.

Apparently, the JavaScript URL parser will omit the default port for a protocol (80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS) even if it was explicitly specified.

Every day I am in awe of international students. Doing a PhD in your native language and home country is hard. Doing it in a non-native language, in a different country and different culture is so much harder. You are not stupid. You are legends.

All it takes for a company to lose you for life is to fool you once. I signed up to a monthly Adobe subscription, only to realized it was a *yearly* one paid monthly (?!) when I tried to cancel, and Adobe did not let me. That was it: me done with Adobe. I cannot recommend them.

@emollick Do you think code could be completely abstracted away from the developer, so they just work at a higher level (like telling it what features to implement)? It happened with assembly, so why not I say

I don’t think “prompt crafting” is going to be a key skill of the future & I say that as someone who is good at prompting AI. Two things happening: 1) AI systems are getting much better at guessing what you want without help 2) AI firms are incentivized to make prompting easier

@MunaMohamed94 VS Code is fantastic! It's also extremely extensible. Check out custom snippets if you haven't already. #_create-your-own-snippets" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/us…

Switched to VS Code from IntelliJ for writing Java - VS Code feels like home! I will miss the shortcut for System.out.println() on IntelliJ, sout if you didn't know, but it's a small price to pay 😅!
