Just had some ass say to me, I mean no offense but there's no way you can be a court reporter because you can't use screenreaders since they are often not accurate. I think this dumbass meant voice recognition.

@linnea710420 Yes, I was on Blind Abilities a long time ago. I use Eclipse, which works very well with Jaws, but sadly not with NVDA or Narrator.

@kd213 Which software do you use? I've had varying comments about accessibility. People seem to prefer Eclipse, but seems like most people use procat or something like that in the sighted world so not sure.

does anyone know of any blind court reporters or about accessible machines or software.

@AbbeyArchives Re: Constance: I always got the impression that Jacques himself didn't believe Constance was "slow-thinking"; some of the characters did. I could be misremembering, but I do believe he based her off of his grandmother so you'd think he would have affection for her.

@reredwallpod Yeah. He does a generally good job of making Simeon wise and perceptive, and then there's this. Meh. Can't remember if I brought it up on @rotwpod or not. It's likely. I do love me a good ableism rant.

@kd213 Yeah, not great Brian. I feel like there have been many times where he tries to quickly address a plot point or a sense of character, but doesn't fully address the implications of that thing. As if he was equipped to even do some of that addressing

@reredwallpod Well damn it guys, I just found an ableist comment regarding Simeon in book 3. Blurgh. I did forget about it until rereading.

@reredwallpod It's equating blindness with ignorance or obliviousness that is damaging. It may not seem like much, but it really can be. I will admit, of course, that there are things I could learn more about, but I have plenty of knowledge of the terrible things humans can do.

@reredwallpod It's when Simeon is claiming that if he could see the condition of the slaves, he would be more passionate about freeing them. The idea that injustice has to literally be seen to be understood offends me, especially as someone who works for the court.

@reredwallpod His portrayal of disability in later books is... not so great. But I'll wait for that particular ableism rant. We can just concentrate on the good job for now. Hahaha

@reredwallpod As a blind person, I think that Jacques does a mostly good job of his portrayals of blind people. Simeon is one of my favorites. Sadly, I do not have his super food sensing powers, which makes me sad because it would make buffets SO much easier.
