@nickdemarco_ You’re right, David Clowes paid the creditors 25% so that #DCFC didn’t have the 15 point penalty in league one. Sheff Wed’s prospective new owners should do the same.

When it is argued, in various football disputes, that points deductions must be imposed even for inadvertent breaches, in order to vindicate compliant clubs, one has to wonder whether that reflects a genuine commitment to consistent strict enforcement in all cases, or is simply a position adopted for the purposes of a particular case.
Consistency is very important in sport - the lack of it can undermine public confidence in the integrity of the whole game.
I do not comment on any one individual case, I just hope that those involved in the decision making processes can see the merit in treating each case according to its particular circumstances rather than being inflexible in some, but very flexible in others.
That, I am sure, would help restore the confidence in sports arbitration we all wish for.

@owl_s74 He’d be absolutely dreadful for any club in our position. If he had the slightest interest in us as a club he’d have bought us. He’s only interested on businesses on the brink of extinction, therefore minimal cost; If he turns it around fine or it ultimately fails, not much lost

@75p98d8vbr @Jordrl66 @robstaton There’s no choice mate. If you play in their league, you have to accept their rules. Preferring some creditors over others wouldn’t be legal. Unless Chansiri agreed to write off his debt, we’re screwed and we know he won’t

EFL Chief Operating Officer Nick Craig, on Sheffield Wednesday:
“The League want to see Sheffield Wednesday continue as a member of the EFL, but ultimately we have to also apply the terms of the League’s Insolvency Policy.
“The policy, of which has been agreed with Clubs and is there to act as guidance for all Clubs and insolvency practitioners, seeks to balance the interests, not only of Sheffield Wednesday, but also of the other 71 Clubs in the EFL.
“We remain open to continuing the conversations with the preferred bidders and the Administrators to try and find a solution that can see Sheffield Wednesday continue as a member of the League.”

Comments from an EFL spokesperson following claims made in our recent interview with James Silverwood @SWFCTrust "The Club has been aware for some time that it is subject to a Fee Restriction until January 2027, and the Club is also aware that any exit from Administration will be subject to a Business Plan and that includes player expenditure. @robstaton Sorry I’m not buying that. The administrators will have been through the EFL rules with a fine tooth comb to ensure the value of the business isn’t misrepresented. Have you actually checked these ‘claims’ Rob or just posting for clicks?

Claims made include the EFL only telling #SWFC administrators & preferred bidder on Tuesday morning of restrictions. The EFL wants to apply £7m wage bill & an upper limit of £7k a week on players. It's claimed a 15-point deduction for next season is “entirely discretionary"

Their whole purpose as I understand it is to ensure a team going into admin can’t exit advantageously

We all know this is down to one man: Chansiri. But the responsibility to the creditors remains with the club. Arise will pay pennies to the 193 trade creditors, not remotely 25p in the £. Aside from Chansiri, it's just as important as far as the Insolvency Policy is concerned.

Sheffield Wednesday new preferred bid from Storch consortium will fund losses during period of exclusivity but not sufficient enough to pay unsecured creditors 25p in the pound, so likely to trigger a 15 point penalty for 2026/27.
