Rep. @MStinnettSWMO Announces Full Restoration of Disability Services Funding in Missouri House Budget, Secures Additional Support for Foster Children Jefferson City, MO — State Representative Melanie Stinnett today announced that the Missouri House budget fully restores funding for disability services that support individuals with developmental disabilities across the state. The restoration ensures continued funding for essential services and therapies for Missourians receiving care through the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Rep. Stinnett has been a leading advocate for protecting these services throughout the budget process, working closely with House leadership and members of the budget committee to highlight the importance of maintaining stable funding for vulnerable Missourians. In addition, Rep. Stinnett successfully offered an amendment on the House floor to secure $200,000 in funding for CASA of Southwest Missouri, helping expand support and advocacy services for children in foster care across the region. “These services are not optional, they are essential to the independence, dignity, and quality of life of thousands of Missourians and their families,” Stinnett said. “I’m grateful that Chairman Deaton has recognized the importance of these programs and acted to fully restore this funding. When we talk about our values as a state, protecting individuals with developmental disabilities and supporting children in foster care must be at the top of that list.” House Budget Chairman Dirk Deaton credited Rep. Stinnett’s leadership and advocacy as an important factor in ensuring the funding was restored. “Representative Stinnett has been a strong and effective voice for the disability community throughout the budget process,” said Chairman Deaton. “Her advocacy helped highlight the real impact these services have on Missouri families, and it played a key role in making sure this funding was restored in the House budget.” Stinnett noted that the restoration provides important stability for families, providers, and individuals who rely on these services, while the CASA funding will directly support vulnerable children in the foster care system. “When families are caring for loved ones with disabilities, stability matters,” Stinnett said. “And when children are navigating the foster care system, they deserve strong advocates in their corner. These investments ensure we are standing up for those who need us most.
