The new largest data center in Illinois has been approved by the Joliet City Council. It will be the size of Central Park. And use more than half as much electricity as the entire city of Chicago.

In December, President Trump signed an Executive Order tasking us with the development of a national framework for AI, what he called “One Rulebook.” This was in response to a growing patchwork of 50 different state regulatory regimes that threaten to stifle innovation and jeopardize America’s lead in the AI race. Today we are releasing that framework. It will help parents safeguard their children from online harm, shield communities from higher electric bills, protect our First Amendment rights from AI censorship, and ensure that all Americans benefit from this transformative technology. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Congress to turn the principles we are announcing today into legislation. whitehouse.gov/articles/2026/…

My joint statement with Leader @SteveScalise, @HouseCommerce Chairman @RepGuthrie, @JudiciaryGOP Chairman @Jim_Jordan, and @housescience Chairman @RepBrianBabin on committing to act on the artificial intelligence (AI) framework released today by the Trump Administration: AI has begun to demonstrate its potential to improve Americans’ lives. To ensure we continue to harness its potential and beat China in the global AI race, Congress must take action. Today, the Trump Administration took a critical step in releasing a framework that gives Congress a roadmap to pursue legislation that provides innovators with much-needed certainty, while protecting consumers and prioritizing kids’ online safety. @HouseGOP looks forward to working across the aisle to enact a national framework that unleashes the full potential of AI, cements the U.S. as the global leader, and provides important protections for American families.

Today, the @WhiteHouse released a commonsense National AI Policy Framework that ensures every American benefits from AI. As @POTUS has said — we need one federal AI policy, not a 50 state patchwork. This gets us there. Eager to work with Congress on this important legislation.

@ChartKaizen @MorePerfectUS You saying a giant resource sucking data center that only benefits model owners and harms the communities it's places is human progress is laughable. You also champion asbestos?

Did your kid commit suicide or shoot up a school with detailed AI instructions and encouragement? That's just the price of progress, you can't hold big tech accountable, how dare you even think about it. - The White House
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

BREAKING: The White House is out with a new National Policy framework for AI. The proposal says: "States should not be permitted to regulate AI development." It also says that states shouldn't be able to penalize AI companies when people break the law with their models.

@SenSanders Senator for the love of god talk to experts in the field that are pro labor and NOT vested interests. Talk to Alex Hanna, Emily M. Bender @timnitGebru or Dr. Ben Zhao. Read the AI Con. Yes, GenAi has MANY horrible harms. But you should listen to experts and not do a Claude ad…

Jewel thieves propose they be taxed 1% of their jewel selling revenues. In exchange, they would be shielded from prosecution for stealing jewels.
Emmanuel Pernot-Leplay@PernotLeplay

In the FT, @MistralAI CEO Arthur Mensch suggests a European tax on AI companies to compensate their use of publicly available content. That would be 1% of their revenues, used to support new content creation. In exchange, it would shield AI companies from US-like huge fines related to content training.
