@maryschmidt

Proud NM native. I refuse to let small, mean-spirited people frighten me. Proud to be anti-fascist. Reading is resistance.

My social media history has already doomed me, so I might as well keep going (Point! Laugh! Ridicule!). I'm glad I live in a blue state, but there's still a better than zero chance I'll end up in jail or shot down in the streets. (Wish I was joking.)

@TrueFactsStated And for the sake of the world, they should have him address the nation every night. Let him ramble, babble, and blather. More people who normally "don't pay attention" may wake up.

@TrueFactsStated I’ve been wondering about this for a while. He’s very, very sick and they’re hiding it from the American people.

@sonyasupposedly As it should, it's their money. I used every last penny of my mom's savings and it still wasn't enough. And I was listed as a co-signer, owner of the accounts. One day she said, "You could've have just taken it couldn't you?" Never occurred to me. THEY'RE YOUR PARENTS.

Alas, In a battle of wills with a snail today, I lost. I taped paper to the window, thinking it'd crawl onto it; it nibbled a bit and turned around. I tried tape, nope, going around. It's now huddled on the roof the porch and I've given up. So, how's your day going?

Yes. That was me, in my bathrobe, talking to the window on my front porch. (There's a snail that I'm encouraging to climb onto a piece of paper so I can safely release it back into the yard. It persists in eating the paper) Always exciting in the Schmidt mini wildlife refuge.

@MeachamDr Yep. And it's been years since I've been, but I also remember the grime in the corners.

I don’t care that a ballroom is being built. I care that Trump is building it. I’ve been to Trump Tower. I know how fucking tacky his aesthetic is and how slipshod his construction standards are.

@adamnagourney @ShawnMcCreesh See what Charlotte Clymer said below. And while we're here, it'd been great if the NYT has had actually reported on Trump during the election, instead of sane washing him.

What's so good about @ShawnMcCreesh story is it would have been easy just to make fun of Bryon Noem. Instead, he writes a compassionate (and well-reported) story about the humiliation he's going through. Should teach this one in journalism school. nytimes.com/2026/03/31/us/…

@MattWallace888 If we'd picked a better president in the last election, we wouldn't be in this idiotic mess. Really, hon. If you believe this, I do pity you. You're so frightened.

If Trump had picked better Supreme Court judges in his first term the country would be saved right now. Instead, we are doomed. Crazy it comes down to that.

And while we're here, may I recommend "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating" by Elizabeth Tova Bailey. A lovely little book. While the author is bedbound with a mysterious illness, she shares her small life with a wild snail.

@bandy1803 Luckily, a lot of NM hasn't changed much. Once you get off the main roads and visit the small towns, roll through amazing landscapes. (And, yes, Santa Fe is problematic but Albuquerque is still pretty real and has a lot of character.)

"...New Mexico in the 50s, before the jet-set took over. When there was still a rough magic in the smell of pinyon smoke, ranchero music, a garland of peppers dangling from a yellow-pine viga against the mudstraw texture of an adobe wall."

Now reading Edward Abbey's "fat masterpiece": a semi-autobiographical novel about a hard-drinking curmudgeon driving across America. I learned of this via the eloquent curmudgeon @KenLayne on his @Desert_Oracle radio show.

What the FUCK are we doing! My son will NEVER die for a foreign country! I voted for you 3 times, took abuse and fought for you and this is what you do! You do the exact opposite of what you railed against for over a decade!
