After seven years in the works, the No Bullshit Guide to Statistics eBook is finally done! See the announcement blog post here: minireference.com/blog/noBSstats… People say teaching both frequentist and Bayesian #statistics in parallel can't be done, but I say ¿Por qué no los dos?

The MATH & PHYS book is #1 in #Physics of #Mechanics category on Amazon today. If you're taking a first-year university mech or calc class, this would be the time to get the book since it's 17% off today. See here for details amazon.com/dp/0992001005/… be sure to check the reviews

But stats is so central to EVERYTHING, that these intros and conclusions could make a whole book! STATS is the key to science, many STATS ideas are used in ML, causal inference is a big deal, linear models are good for you... etc. Is STATS the cornerstone of everything? 2/2

Introductions and conclusions are hard! I'm done writing the STATS book (cf. noBSstats.com) and now writing the intros to tell readers what to expect an pitch why the stats is important, and conclusions that provide and connect the material to a wider context. 1/2

@Maths__Physics1 Ya! I like the analogy with language: if variables correspond to the nouns of math, then functions correspond to the verbs. Speaking of functions, I just uploaded the functions chapter from my book here minireference.com/static/excerpt… for people who wants to learn more about them 𝑓s.

I spend an exorbitant amount of time choosing the notation for each section to ensure consistency and precision. I used to think this was wasted time, but now I realize this effort is essential for the clarity of explanations... Cleanliness of notation is next to Godliness?

@colin_fraser Nice! Indeed, calculus operations are all procedures with infinitely many steps (like the `n`) and infinitely small steps (like the `dx`). To learn more about math topics using Python, check out the SymPy computer algebra system. Here is a tutorial: minireference.com/static/tutoria…

@lakens Welcome to the Pythonland! Sure we don't have `dnorm` as a built-in function, but `norm.pdf` is there after a `from scipy.stats import norm`. If anyone is interested, I'm writing a Python tutorial for absolute beginners (no programming exp. required): nobsstats.com/tutorials/pyth…

@oscar_olvera100 @lakens @rcribbie Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. The function takes one param `eiL` = "Lower Bound of the Negligible Effect Interval for W." The authors recommend eiL=.95 as liberal bound and eiL=.975 as conservative bound. I will experiment with synth data to see how it does.

@lakens First, THX for your papers on equivalence tests! I was wondering if you know of any procedures where we can do normality checks as an equivalence test? For example, run KS test where reject H0 means normal, up to a SESOI (smallest deviation form normality of interest).

Note I'm using Kolmogorov–Smirnov (KS) as example; plz replace with any normality test. It seems it would be very useful to run as equivalence test with SESOI rather than rejecting the point-null (always finds non-normal when large n). Then again how to choose the normality-SESOI
