{MIP-12} you might've heard that monad is about to drop its block times from 0.4 seconds to 0.3 seconds and you're wondering what that actually means it's simple monad will soon produce blocks every 0.3 seconds which is impressively fast if you're not familiar with blocks think of them as pages in a digital ledger each page records every transaction, where it's going and which wallet it's headed to. the faster these pages get written the quicker your transaction gets confirmed so raptorcast helps these blocks spread across the network asap while monadbft is what actually agrees on which blocks are valid and gets them confirmed faster so monad reducing its block time from 0.4 to 0.3 seconds is bullish. it means the network is becoming more efficient and you're far less likely to experience delays when transacting on monad mainnet now one thing people might ask is does this affect staking rewards? yes and no. the block reward drops from 25 MON to 18 MON per block but since blocks are coming faster, the total MON earned annually stays roughly the same. more blocks, less per block it balances out your staking APR shouldn't take a hit (was reading the docs earlier and came across something like this btw and thought to share hahaha, not exactly techy so I'll appreciate if someone could correct me if im wrong to understand better) to compare this to other layer1s for better understanding bitcoin -- ten minutes ethereum -- ~12 seconds solana -- ~0.4 seconds monad -- ~0.3 seconds (once MIP-12 goes live) this shows that monad was already matching solana's speed while preserving ethereum's decentralization and developer environment once this officially goes live, monad block times would be faster than solana's hahahaha speed, scalability and reliability this upgrade checks all the boxes and it's been 6 months and monad hasn't faced any sort of downtime yet we'd begin the count officially once it crosses a year hahaha + 9 updates now hahaha w more research papers on the way (pending upgrades) monad makes it so easy to brag w her fr
