In America’s eternal desire to emulate the Roman Empire, we seem to be entering the “waste blood & treasure in war against the Persians” phase

@AJD20201 @TenreiroDaniel On the one hand, condemn fascism. On the other hand demonize an entire ethnicity. Masterfully done ❤️

@TenreiroDaniel Perverted artists who think aesthetics are a substitute for morality should not be allowed to express themselves. His turn to fascism is the logical conclusion of his lifetime of meaningless self-gratification. The Spanish are animals.

Can we talk about the elephant in the room? Gene Wolfe can’t write female characters and I don’t think that gets talked about enough. Idk maybe it’s his misogyny.

Mash reports that Eduard Chirko, a municipal head in Russia’s Leningrad region, has fathered 33 children (19 sons, 14 daughters) with different partners, runs several businesses, and has been awarded the title “Father-Hero.” He says he only started having children in his 40s: “Life was complicated… but once the first child was born, it just took off.” “God forbid you have just one child,” he added, arguing large families provide stability. Chriko admits it's hard to manage it all: “There are about seven birthdays a month… you have to keep everything in your head, and I mix up names occasionally, when we play football, I might call Lidia ‘Lilia’…”

There are no “Republicans” as you understand the term. There is a loose alliance between various people who have ways to profit from the inevitable resentment against an unaccountable permanent regime. These people also serve the regime—by pretending to hold it to account
DCinvestor@DCinvestor

what’s the best, grand unified theory on why Republicans seem totally OK with losing the House and possibly the Senate in the 2026 midterms, getting their POTUS impeached, and probably losing the next presidential election in 2028?

@Generally_aware @EveKeneinan Christ’s life does not have to comply to customs of the time. An angel came to Mary. That wasn’t exactly customary. None of this is evidence that the tradition of the church is wrong.

St. Joseph was an elderly and righteous Jew chosen by God to become the protector of the young woman who was to become the mother of the Lord. At no point did St. Joseph's role in God's plan for human salvation required him to have carnal relations with Mary. It is, in fact, possible for an elderly man to marry a young girl with motives other than sexual lust. "Non-monastic" indeed! Monks become monks to practice ascetics, but they do so because asceticism belongs to the cultivation of holiness. There is nothing at all surprising that St. Joseph, a pious, righteous, and holy man, would practice such things. Not long after the birth of Christ, the devil attempted to tempt St. Joseph into despair, likely using such ammunition as the claim his lovely young bride was not as holy and pure as she seemed, but was pregnant from another man. St. Joseph resisted such temptations as well as whatever temptations of the flesh he may have felt toward Mary, although given his age and righteousness, I doubt he had any. It was not be right in the circumstances. The devil's temptations failed so hard that St. Joseph carries the title "The Terror of Demons", and his assistance is a great thing against them. Here is some art that depicts the devil whispering into the ear of a seemingly upset Joseph:

The idea that a non-monastic Roman citizen just opted to never have sex with his pretty wife for 40 years, and all the people who are explicitly called Jesus' brothers were his distant cousins, is a fascinating example of dogma - a thing believed because one is supposed to believe it.
