@KeruboSk she defended slave labor unironically and then went real freakin quiet and changed the subject when i called her out on that
haven't spoken much since then

@BraddrofliT if elections aren't rigged, then we're all on board with tightening election security, right? because there's nothing bad going on so what's the big deal
there was shady shit in 2016, in 2020, and then in 2024. let's put the doubt to rest already and be done w it ffs

@aethersweep cursed skin being very painful and uncomfy and needing extra care will never not bring me life as a hc, idk what about it is so good but it is and i am so happy to see im not alone in it
English

@aakashgupta scrolling through this site for too long is suddenly worth it entirely after feeling so seen and understood LOL
i get so unbearably upset when my seedlings die (fl sun doesn't mess around). but seeing another one sprouting makes everything better. never thought of it like this

She accidentally described one of the most replicated findings in behavioral psychology.
Harvard and Duke researchers found in 2011 that people value things they build themselves 63% higher than identical pre-assembled versions. They called it the IKEA effect. Labor alone, even assembling a standardized box from instructions, is enough to make people overvalue their own creations.
Gardening runs this effect at full intensity. You chose the seeds. You dug the holes. You watered daily. By harvest, your brain has priced that tomato at roughly 10x grocery store rates, and the math feels completely justified.
Now stack Kahneman and Tversky's loss aversion on top. Losses register at approximately 2x the emotional intensity of equivalent gains. One of the most replicated findings in behavioral economics.
So the aphid eating her garden is triggering both simultaneously. She built something her brain values at 163% of objective worth. She's watching it get destroyed in real time. Her nervous system is processing that destruction at double intensity.
The grocery store tomato being out of stock? Mild annoyance. Zero labor investment means zero IKEA effect, means proportional emotional response.
The garden tomato carries months of accumulated effort justification. The aphid isn't eating a $4 tomato. Her brain priced it at $40 and is processing the loss at $80.
Gardening is the only common hobby that combines the IKEA effect, loss aversion, and a live adversary that reproduces faster than you can respond.
The violence tracks.
Melony🍈@MelonTeee
gardening is NOT relaxing bugs are eating all my shit I've never felt this violent in my life

@Matt_Pinner all potatoes are good potatoes. idk if i have 0% gravy or 100000000% gravy, if the mashed potatoes are good then i am already happy and if they aint then i aint eating it lmao
English

@Matt_Pinner if hubby isn't working, he needs to provide another way. if both are working, both need to split chores. if wife isn't working, she needs to provide another way. this isn't rocket science dawg
English

@rushicrypto you just accept you can't know and care about everything. focus on friends/family, then local community, and leave it at that and go plant a garden to heal back your mental health. or touch grass and go for a walk. idk but sunlight and fresh air do wonders for the soul
English

@oelma__ rather than boiling in water, throw them in a bowl with a little olive oil, garlic salt (or garlic powder, salt, italian seasoning), grated parmesean cheese, and throw into a skillet. always a win in my house
English

@bbirdbPhD it won't magically cut your entire grocery budget, ofc. no sane person will argue that. but you DO have some options to take the edge off and that's better than nothing. I'm growing tomatoes, herbs, and lettuce in the winter personally - that alone cut massive costs for me/hubby
English

@bbirdbPhD ... if someone expects you to live 100% off the land right away they're wildin out
that said, you can still cut costs. even growing a few herbs on the windowsill can save a lot of money, fresh herbs are bloody EXPENSIVE at stores. minimal space, + they thrive off neglect
English

@leecantdraw idk man, if my chaeya work gets a "I don't like chaeya but-," I take it as "you wrote/drew this idea so well and it's such a good idea that you've sold me on this ship that I originally didn't care for." that is a MASSIVE compliment, at least to me
English

@MelonTeee if you have pests you don't wanna fight, then you need pest hunters! ladybugs, wasps, and birds can be your besties. but that requires space (and peace offerings-). I have birds that like to eat bugs, ladybugs do the rest, I've only done pest stuff like 2x max (im in central FL)

@Killraven2001 @CiCiYouLaterTTV thank god you aint my manager lmao
English

@CiCiYouLaterTTV Yes. You're the employee and you want to control the schedule because you showed up early. Your manager is your boss, not your coddling parents.
You're also a whiner. Good luck getting a new job.
English

Am I in the wrong?
I was scheduled to work 8am to 4pm. I show up to my shift early and then my manager shows up and decides she wants me to close and come in later because she doesn't feel like closing. I told her that this wasn't discussed with me beforehand and I have already made prior engagements, which means I can't just all of a sudden work a different shift that I wasn't informed about until now. So instead she got upset and just told me that if I won't close then she doesn't want me here at all and sent me home. Like am I in the wrong here?
English

@ThrillaRilla369 sir i dont even know how it turned into gravy, all i know is that i had some flour and blinked and it was there, okay, i can do it but idk how do not assume how dare you😂
English

@7staroth I felt unsatisfied w rerir too. he really needed to be the focus of nod krai and dottore needed to be saved for snezhnaya. literal sinner of khaenri'ah and he got swept aside, it's so unsatisfying. but at least they didnt have him fight dr with us as a redemption arc🙏
English

@parkersity_9 if you're spending $25 on ingredients to make ONE meal (not even multiple servings, just one meal that you eat and no leftovers) and NONE of those ingredients can go to other meals later, you're doing something wrong😭
English

@Etteee_2 @bvddieshollanov ...and it doesn't take much to not read them either? like I said, you have to go out of your way to view a bookmark. idk why bookmarks are public by default, but again, it's not like it's right there in front of your face all the time
English

@mostlydeadyay @bvddieshollanov that's just weird asf it doesn't take much to make a private bookmark like
English

@coffinvoxal ...because that WAS normal for the longest time, but we now live in a hypersexualized world where not needing an emotional connection first is more common and more accepted and not everyone seems to have caught up to that just yet (I def didn't for a really long time)
