Please join us for a roundtable on mass atrocities in #Sudan and the role of the #AfricanUnion and regional accountability mechanisms in preventing and punishing mass atrocities. Sudan has endured repeated cycles of mass atrocities in which accountability has been the exception and not the rule. The perpetrators responsible — Sudan’s main warring parties and external actors — are well known. What remains uncertain is the political will to hold them to account. As the war in Sudan drags into its fourth year, this expert roundtable will examine: 1. What is the African Union’s mandate and responsibility to prevent and halt mass atrocities? 2. How can African accountability mechanisms and courts more effectively address grave international crimes? 3. What legal, diplomatic, and institutional reforms are needed to strengthen African-led responses? We hope you can join us. Register here: eventbrite.ca/e/african-lead…

Glad to have another opportunity to meet with UAE Minister of State H.E. Lana Nusseibeh @mofauae to discuss coordination on securing a humanitarian truce in Sudan, as well as responding to Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on the UAE while reaffirming our unwavering commitment to the security of the Emirates and regional stability. We are grateful for the UAE’s continued partnership as we work together on regional and bilateral priorities. @UAEEmbassyUS

The Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, SOS-Torture/Burundi, the Alliance of Burundians in Canada, and the Coalition for the Defense of Human Rights of People Living in Refugee Camps note that the situation in Burundian refugee camps in Tanzania reflects a troubling deterioration of human rights in #Burundi. For several years, we have observed that many Burundians are fleeing political persecution, arbitrary arrests, and threats targeting real or perceived opponents. The pressure exerted on refugees in Tanzania to return, as well as abductions and intimidation within the camps, demonstrate that the Burundian government is extending its influence beyond its borders. These acts constitute a systematic violation of fundamental rights and contradict Burundi and Tanzania’s international obligations regarding refugee protection. @SOSTORTUREBDI @CbdhVicar @ABC_Federal @ABC_RDBM raoulwallenbergcentre.org/en/news/2026-0…
