If @MLB had a Christianity night and all players were required to wear crosses, people would lose their minds and want to opt out. Why can't Christians opt out of pride nights?

@NickiMJ70 @Davelikesdisc @MLB W/your experiences in church, you’ve likely suffered directly or indirectly from others’ sin. For that I’m really, really sorry. But, you’re right: we need Jesus to make us good. That’s the gospel. He didn’t leave us to try to make our way to Him. He closed that gap. Blessings!

@nateelgin i know you’re trying to do this whole “reasonable, rational conservative” schtick, but you miss the point that what they did is intentionally inflammatory. can we agree that the situation would be way different if a player had put like, the XBOX logo on his pride hat?

@BenCampb_ I don't think it's that simple. The choices are: 1) opt out 2) participate 3) exercise their "right to preach their faith" on pride night and be subject to future punishment from the league and social commentary from sports journalists about how they're intolerant.

It's because most of these players exercise their right to preach their faith on the one day that is designed for the celebration of pride. They aren't told to keep their faith out of interviews when they thank God It's not "participate or be punished" if they can opt out

This exploded. Let me say this: In haste to speak (which isn’t Godly), I didn’t think about the fact that players can opt out and some do. That (and I) was wrong. I own that. A better question should have been, “Why can’t Christians stand up for their faith on pride nights?”

It bothers me that the league has warned players that this type of behavior could be punished going forward. While the rule allows for opting out, the reality is “participate or keep quiet, or face penalties.” So, the reality is as close to a requirement w/o saying it out loud.

Please, continue to pretend you’re completely clueless about the intent behind the messages. And ignore the fact that the messages themselves are a rules violation

@richa340 @richi_mil @MLB I could understand if they cited verses specifically about sexuality like Leviticus 18 or Romans 1, but the passage referenced is about the symbolism of the rainbow and it's importance to Christianity. Why is that hateful in your mind?

@nateelgin @richi_mil @MLB If you protest by spreading hate, yes. If this was about professing their faith or spreading a message, then they would add those messages to their hats every game. But they don’t. This was about sending a specific message to a specific group. That makes you the bad guy

@nateelgin @MLB They could have done like Treinen and just wore the usual team cap. They instead broke rules, which they were WARNED about-not suspended or anything, and soft af people want to cry about it. They made it about themselves by choosing to do that, and now it's a distraction.

@ecq023 @BSpilner2f2f @MLB Respectfully, no one’s being persecuted here. Certainly not Christians, and I would argue, neither is the LGBTQ community. Players wrote a Bible verse on their hats, there’s pushback against it, theres pushback against the pushback, and no one is being persecuted.

@nateelgin It's the timing, and lack of protests over the several other themed nights. It's also a coded message for being anti LGBTQ. We can all play dumb if you want but it's a hateful action towards a specific group of people.
