You cannot reason with empire nor ask it to spare you anymore than you can reason with or ask a raging river to spare your home from flooding. Empire is the greatest manifestation of human greed and its desire to dominate. It has a momentum all of its own - a force of the darkest aspects of human nature. Just like with a river, you either protect yourself from it or it will consume you with absolute, utter indifference. It does not stop unless it is made to stop. Those across the Global Rest who think they can somehow be accommodated by the Wall Street and Washington given enough concessions are like people sitting in a valley at a table hoping the river stops, takes a seat, and talks with them before washing over them. Unfortunately, the desire to ignore grim reality and the need for action is just as much a near unstoppable force of human nature as the greed for power and profit of empire itself.
