Transport Tycoon from 1994 was created by Chris Sawyer (published by MicroProse) and is easily one of the best business simulations ever. It's over 30 years old now but still has everything fans of the genre look for. From incredibly detailed information on all kinds of vehicles, a very complex transport system, financial data and reports - and all that not in a dry and boring design but with vibrant pixel graphics and a great soundtrack. I found it quite hard to learn (because there was simply so much to take in at the start) but immensely satisfying when things worked and everything was humming like a well-oiled machine. You could easily lose track of time playing it, being one of those “just one more depot here, and a quick road connection there… oh, the sun is rising” games. As always, it came came with a pretty extensive manual not just explaining the rules and goal of the game but giving the player some historical background, something that MicroProse was known for in all their games. They really had a knack for strategic and business sims. I think no company in the 90s did those genres better than MicroProse.
