St. Patrick’s Day is about Ireland and the Irish people, and we are not a monolith in terms of our belief system on Middle Eastern geopolitics. The Palestinian movement should not be placed at the forefront of Ireland’s national holiday by a mayor who, to my knowledge, has never even been here and who only yesterday openly admitted he had not ‘thought enough’ about the subject of a United Ireland. There are so many things to be proud of in being Irish: our literature, our music, our film, our language. The obsessive grandstanding against Israel, which is very recent in the course of our long and illustrious history, is not one of them. Mamdani should stick to New York, and stop telling Irish people who and what we are. Insulting beyond belief that he co-opts our holiday for his own political agenda.

(Though the Taoiseach also finds it necessary to claim to be in favor of unification even though Irish politicians are in fact rather frightened of the prospect)
