“I don’t want you to like me today…..I want you to love me in a couple years.” Coaches would rather push you today than apologize for not preparing you for tomorrow.  Great leaders don’t lower the standard; they raise the person.

Does anyone have the analytics on how often an offense scores a goal when they have the defense hung up by standing behind the cage trying to feed cutters? In the shot clock era, it seems like a waste.

@FlowGo37 Arizona is dominated by youth soccer and baseball. Add in the rise of flag football, we aren’t getting the athletes or participation numbers

@FlowGo37 Youth is down 25% from last year and from what I heard was down 33% the year prior The state (including me) overly focused on HS and not youth Lack of lacrosse players/coaches invested in next generation Accessibility to fields…rec + travel teams practice in baseball fields

This is a real problem. You cannot coach a kid who is 1 foot out the door playing with different teams and at showcases every weekend. If you challenge them and make them uncomfortable, it’s too easy to leave for the next team. It’s bad.

Lacrosse people...I have an idea! Fans want the sport as early as possible...just not for games to be played in single digit temps or in an indoor practice facility with no spectators. Hear me out. This would be an example for men's lacrosse but also could be used for women's lacrosse but scaled differently based on more teams. There are less than 80 Men's D1 teams. Have four host venues for the four weekends in February. The host venue would have three games on Friday (2pm, 5pm, & 8pm), four on Saturday (11am, 2pm, 5pm, and 8pm), and three on Sunday (11am, 2pm, and 5pm). The host venue would have a total of ten games over three days...satisfying 20 teams. Four hosts venues can be but not limited to....The Dome, Ford Field in Detroit, Lucas Oil in Indianapolis, The Star in Dallas, multiple venues in Southern California, Arizona, Atlanta, and countless options in Florida. Not all venues could host all weekends (ex: Dome has basketball some weekends)...but you would only need four host venues per weekend. Turf or multiple playing surfaces (ex: IMG) would be a requirement based on field conditions. This would offer a great fan experience, stream lined media opportunities for coverage and exposure, sponsorship and event partnership, and an opportunity to bring high level lacrosse to some non traditional areas. People will argue there would be an average of two extra away games and budget issues. Last I checked some teams travel for scrimmages. Ticket sales and event sponsorship could offset some team travel expenses. Teams can be creative with fundraising and a small price to pay to give the players, coaches, support staff, and the fans what they deserve...great lacrosse played in suitable and desirable playing conditions. The reality is the sport isn't getting pushed back and ending in June anytime soon and teams don't want play numerous midweek games. We need some solutions. Feel free to share your thoughts or another idea.

I keep hearing stories of elite club directors threatening families for guest playing with other premium clubs. The sooner parents and players understand that every family at these premium clubs falls into one of two categories, the sooner they stop making emotional decisions and start making smart ones. Category 1: You are genuinely irreplaceable. The club sees you as essential to their brand. They’ll say “no guest playing” or “you’re fully committed or you’re out,” but it’s a bluff you can call. They can’t afford to lose you. If they’re dumb enough to cut you out of spite, clubs of equal or higher status will take you tomorrow. You hold the power. Category 2: You are revenue. You’re paying the same fees and wearing the same uniform, but you’re not viewed as elite. You’re subsidizing the business, staff and the high priority players. The moment you question anything—playing time, guest playing, advocacy—the threats start. You’re replaceable the same day. Most families are in Category 2 and never admit it. They keep paying to fund someone else’s highlight reel. The fix is simple: figure out which category you’re really in. If you’re Category 1, use your leverage wisely. If you’re Category 2, staying and paying premium prices will usually lead you down a road of disappointment and frustration. Know your worth. Act accordingly.
