@BigFish3000 @mirandadevine Politics is exactly like professional wrestling… it’s 100% an act… they say Washington DC is for ugly people that couldn’t make it in Hollywood

@BullBrezza @chamath I just paid $100 bucks to fill up my 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder

Santa Fe Springs just hit 11%.
Let that land.
11 cents of every dollar spent goes to the government before you've paid income tax.
Before property tax.
Before capital gains.
Before the $9 coffee.
California has the highest income tax
in America. 13.3%.
The highest gas tax in America.
Now some of the highest sales tax
in the developed world.
And the roads still have potholes.
The schools are still underperforming.
The homeless crisis is still accelerating.
The water infrastructure is still crumbling.
The frog isn't just being boiled.
The frog is paying for the pot.
The stove.
And the chef's pension.
Here's the math nobody does out loud:
A founder in San Francisco earning $500K pays:
37% federal income tax.
13.3% state income tax.
10.5% sales tax on everything they buy.
1.2% property tax on a $3M house.
Effective total extraction from income to consumption:
Close to 65 cents of every dollar earned goes somewhere before it becomes actual quality of life.
Nevada has no income tax.
Texas has no income tax.
Florida has no income tax.
The frog didn't move because it wanted to.
The frog moved because it finally did the math.
And April 1st is when the next batch of frogs opens a spreadsheet.

California politicians think taxes are like boiling a frog. You can keep it up as long as you only increase it by a little each time…but at some point the frog is cooked…or moved to Nevada, Texas or Florida.

@chamath I got this email yesterday from CA State Board of Equalization, the new California sales tax rates effective April 1st.

Politicians should not be able to shut down our country’s critical infrastructure in an attempt to achieve a political outcome.
