🌀 Potential Tropical Cyclone One (#PTC1; yes, a mouthful) is centered near the #Texas coastline this morning, with broad rotation evident in satellite imagery. It has not been officially classified as a tropical cyclone yet. As expected, wind shear is pushing most rain and thunderstorm activity to the eastern side of the system, and is helping to prevent significant strengthening. That said, winds approaching tropical storm force (39 mph) have been observed at a buoy off of Galveston in recent hours. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the western #Louisiana coastline, and a Tropical Storm Watch for the northeastern Texas coastline. 🌀 PTC1 will move northeastward and inland tonight, spreading heavy rains eastward across the southern US as it goes. The @NWSWPC still outlines a swath of moderate risk for flash flooding across the Gulf Coast states during the next couple of days. Hopefully those who need rain get enough without any flooding - stay safe!
