Free download of "Minerals are a Shared Inheritance: Accounting for the Resource Curse". #OOTT EXIS paper where Scott Pegg & I argue that we need a paradigm shift from "windfall revenue" to "shared inheritance" & a fix to an error in government accounting. authors.elsevier.com/c/1cDbK,oMyQL9…

If you are following the TCS Nashik controversy, pause for a moment. A 26-year-old pregnant woman, Nida Khan, was turned into the face of a national outrage within hours. Called a “mastermind.” Some branded her terrorist, absconding. Projected as an “HR head.” Dragged into wild conspiracy theories. Now reports suggest she wasn’t even in HR, wasn’t absconding, and hadn’t worked in the Nashik office for months. So what was this? An investigation… or a full-blown media trial? A workplace complaint became “Corporate Jihad.” Rumours became headlines. And a woman’s life became collateral damage. If she is guilty, let the law punish her. But if she is not -who takes responsibility for this public lynching? This is not journalism. This is narrative manufacturing. @TCS @nashikpolice @DGPMaharashtra @NCWIndia @PressCouncil_IN @MIB_India

Yes, the Indians (Muslim leadership) played a crucial role in aiding the American freedom struggle. There is a reason why George Washington fired a salute for Nawab Hyder Ali and American revolutionaries named a ship after him, idealised him, & sung his praises. Apart from this economic factor, Nawab Hyder diverted crucial manpower, which was to be utilised by the British monarchy against the infant American state. Apart from the East India Company Europeans, a force from His Majesty's Troops (the King's Army), comprising 8,575 rank and file, 429 officers, and 64 surgeons, was dispatched to India. These forces would go on to meet a disastrous fate and suffer failure in India. At Bednore, Nawab Fateh Ali (Hyder Bahadur's son) captured some 1,022 Europeans. This thinning and stretching of resources and crucial manpower was felt on American soil.

Indian Muslim Archives
When James Forbes (1749-1819) visited India, he observed how Hindus encroached on Indian Muslim heritage by first installing a small idol, then gradually expanding & performing rituals. Charminar Gate suffered the same fate. A small idol placed in the 1960s has grown into this.

They have ruined the beauty of Charminar by establishing a temple there. What is the point of placing statues on this historical monument?

This woman is from among the Dravidians, the ancient and earliest inhabitants of India 🇮🇳. These dark-skinned Indians are looked down upon by fair-skinned Indians. The name "Krishna" originates from the Sanskrit word Kṛṣṇa, which is primarily an adjective meaning "black", "dark", or "dark blue". This is the exact representation of Krishna and most deities. They are portrayed as jet black like this woman. They are hated so much that they receive no credence or coverage on any platform, not even on television news or movies.

You can argue the Indian state is centralized & it has inherited a colonial structure which it uses to oppress. I have argued that too. But the problem at the heart of the Indian state is still Brahmanism - the oldest form of discrimination known to human kind.

@kachatterjee Here's how West Bengal can be global leaders in managing its mineral wealth for the benefit of its people and all future generations as well. It also reduces corruption and the resource curse more generally. Imagine if this were implemented in 1947! @derekobrienmp @MahuaMoitra

West Bengal is a resource-rich state in eastern India, particularly dominant in coal, which accounts for approximately 99% of its total mineral extraction. It ranks third in India for overall mineral production, contributing about one-fifth of the national total. Recent exploration has also confirmed significant natural gas and shale gas potential, establishing the state as a growing energy hub. The state holds a strategic position in the production of several key minerals, with Purulia and Bankura being primary hubs. Coal: The principal mineral, with major reserves in the Raniganj Coalfield (Paschim Bardhaman) and the newly developing Deocha-Pachami Coal Block in Birbhum, which is India's largest. High-grade bituminous coal is primarily mined here. Apatite: West Bengal is India's leading producer, holding roughly 57% of the country's resources, mainly in the Purulia district. China Clay & Fireclay: The state possesses 14–16% of India's china clay. Key deposits are found in Birbhum (Mohammad Bazar), Bankura (Mejia), and Purulia. Dolomite: Significant reserves are located in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri and parts of Purulia. Limestone: Primarily mined in Bankura and Purulia for use in the cement and steel industries. Tungsten (Wolframite): Notable occurrences are found at Jhilimili in the Bankura district. Oil & Natural Gas: The Ashoknagar oilfield in North 24 Parganas, discovered by ONGC, is the first commercially viable site in the state. Ongoing exploration has confirmed further gas finds in Nadia and North 24 Parganas. Coal Bed Methane (CBM): Extracted from coal seams, particularly in the Raniganj area. Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG): A major ₹13,052-crore coal-to-SNG project is currently under development in Paschim Bardhaman through a joint venture between Coal India Ltd and GAIL. Shale Gas: Reserves have been identified in the Bengal Basin, and are considered a "game changer" for the state's industrial future. Metals: Small quantities of copper (Purulia), iron ore (Bardhaman, Birbhum), and lead-zinc (Darjeeling). Others: Quartz/Silica sand (Bankura, Hooghly), Barytes (Purulia), Kyanite (Purulia), and Manganese ore (Paschim Medinipur). "They" want to hand over these to the crony capitalists. Your one vote can stop it.

Tonight, Pakistan achieved one of its biggest diplomatic wins in years. It also defied many skeptics and naysayers that didn’t think it had the capacity to pull off such a complex, high stakes feat. But what matters the most is it helped avert a potential catastrophe in Iran.

This is the Leader of the Opposition in India. Today he is echoing what India’s historical stance has been in the face of global war. This man’s great grandfather was Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Indian PM, who lobbied both the USSR and the US to stop the Korean War. During Nehru’s time, India also came up with a PoW repatriation formula in 1952 which led to the Neutral Nations Repatriation Commission overseeing the transfer of prisoners of the Korean War. Today, in India we have a government that governs through suppression and cannot find the morally right words to signal an objection to what is a clear genocidal threat by the man at the head of the world’s most powerful military. Therefore, I am glad that at least someone in an important elected position in the world’s largest democracy (India) has said something that signals that all is not morally lost in India. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
