In Baltimore, a gunman opened fire at a gas station. It was ShotSpotter that alerted officers to the exact location—fast—helping drive the response, recover ballistic evidence, and ultimately support the investigation that led to an 80-year sentence. This is the difference real-time intelligence makes. When gunfire isn’t called in, ShotSpotter detects it, locates it, and alerts officers in seconds—turning chaos into actionable intelligence. Faster response. Stronger cases. Safer communities. 🔗hoodline.com/2026/04/baltim…

VBPD Makes an Arrest in Atlantic Avenue Shooting VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, April 12, 2026 – On April 11, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers patrolling the Oceanfront responded to sounds of gunfire, along with a ShotSpotter Activation, in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue. Officers converged on the scene, locating eight individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All eight victims were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to serious. At this time, all victims are expected to survive. VBPD Homicide Detectives led the investigation and determined two unrelated groups of young adults and juveniles began shooting at each other after an altercation escalated. Detectives determined at least three suspects exchanged gunfire, one of whom was also among the eight individuals shot. Suspect #1, who was also shot, was in illegal possession of two firearms and is currently in custody. VBPD Homicide Unit detectives are actively seeking information on the location of Suspect #2 and the identity of Suspect #3: Suspect #1: Jamaya Williams (F/18) of Henrico County, VA, arrested and charged with aggravated assault (x7), use of firearm in the commission of a felony (UOF) (x7), reckless handling of a firearm with injury (x7), and violations of a protective order (x3). Suspect #2: Isaiah Charity (M/18) of Richmond, VA, has outstanding warrants for aggravated malicious wounding (x8), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (x8), and reckless handling of a firearm with injury (x8). Suspect #3: Unidentified male, Black, dark-colored hoodie with possible red lettering on the back. The other seven victims were identified as follows: 1. (F/24) of Chesterfield, VA 2. (M/18) of Lancaster, VA 3. (M/20) of Lancaster, VA 4. (F/17) of Portsmouth, VA 5. (M/17) of Richmond, VA 6. (M/18) of Richmond, VA 7. (F/20) of Snellville, GA During the course of the investigation, VBPD officers stopped and arrested Jahmari Savage (M/21) of Chesapeake, VA, who was in illegal possession of a concealed firearm. VBPD officers charged Savage with possession of a concealed firearm and seized a 9 mm handgun. Upon further investigation, it is not believed that Savage was related to the shooting. This is an ongoing investigation. Suspects #2 and #3 are still outstanding, and VBPD is asking for anyone with information or possible video from this incident to contact VBPD at (757) 385-4101 or anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com. (Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)

"Citywide, about 24% of this year’s shooting victims have died, but among those who experienced delayed assistance due to a lack of ShotSpotter, the fatality rate rises to 58%."

A man was found murdered on a Brighton Park street this morning. All indications are he was there for more than 2 hours before a passerby discovered his body. The block used to have ShotSpotter. It once detected a triple murder on the same block. cwbchicago.com/2026/04/with-s…

@picketfposse @WorldFullofJunk @CWBChicago The defense throws up the deflection that ShotSpotter was somehow responsible for Williams arrest. However, arrest record has no reference/relevance whatsoever to ShotSpotter.

There have been no documented cases in the state of Illinois where this has occurred. The only one case of note is Michael Williams v. City of Chicago. This had to do with Shotspotter, an acoustical AI shot detection system. Other than that 0 cases. Across the US, yes there have been because of over reliance of AI. However , eyewitness accounts are also unreliable 60% to 75% of the time. There is no perfect solution.

Two more legislators have signed on to sponsor a bill that will bar Illinois police agencies from ever using facial recognition to help identify violent criminals. CPD has used the tech to clear hundreds of crimes, including murders and rapes on the CTA. cwbchicago.com/2026/04/bill-t…
