But nothing like the tens of thousands we keep hearing. To be clear: the Iranian state clearly committed grave crimes, and the death toll is hideous enough. It's also clear that some protesters engaged in armed warfare. Trump has claimed the US sought to arm protesters. But there isn't evidence to substantiate the claims of tens of thousands, a figure which has been used to justify an illegal war in which the US is threatening to literally destroy the country.
