today I am extracting DNA from a large female Ro that was removed from the lung of a captive garter snake that died… the pet trade likely has a great influence on the spread of this invasive snake parasite. though morphology is consistent w Ro, I will confirm ID molecularly.

Invasive species often have lower genetic diversity, despite adapting to new conditions. How? Lafond 2022 found bullfrogs maintained diversity at important functional loci involved with immunity. These genes help the frogs combat the fungal disease Bd. amphibiaweb.org
