@raimonick For us it’s the ROI: we rarely need more than 10kWh / 40mi per day so 2.8kW is fine. Due to poor location of consumer unit / extension we need to lift floor and dig concrete to put in cable so at least £2k for charger + install. Still I would like intelligent octopus one day.

Things I'll never understand; EV owners who can have a home charge point installed yet choose to use a granny cable? 🦥 It's slow 🗑️It's less efficient! ⚠️ It's not as safe 🐙You could get cheaper electric evnick.com/energy

Every morning I have to go into here and re-adjust my monitor placements. None of my cables ever change ports yet when I log in each day, the monitors are mixed up. Its been like this for as long as I've owned a Mac too!

@JOSHUAK21942509 @evmanuk I can recommend the e-Berlingo, fantastic car for the price! It’s not the most comfortable for longer trips, but it’s huge and gets reasonable economy considering the aero profile.

@evmanuk I’m Thinking of a E-Berlingo. This to me is just one of those form factor cars that shouldn’t exist.

Considering the price point, (£2k cheaper than a Corsa-E) This is the most underrated EV around. Get exactly what you expect.

@AlanStainer @FullyChargedShw @takeitev @tillathenun BP and Osprey up to 79p/kWh. At 3.2mi/kWh that’s 25p/mile. Certainly not as cheap as it used to be, now parity with 30mpg diesel. But… cheaper maintenance and tax significantly lower TCO. If you can charge at home off-peak it’s 2.5p/mile or less.

I have noticed people claiming that using public chargers is more expensive per mile than filling up an ICE with petrol or diesel. I see the usual myth peddlers peddling it, so is it true, or just another myth that needs to be busted? @FullyChargedShw @takeitev @tillathenun ?

@nazsoogund The difference I suppose is choice. You can get to Yorkshire and back on one tank of diesel so your stops are purely based on want. Plus if you need fuel it’s ubiquitous and 5 mins. With non-Tesla EV you have to carefully plan stops based on range, facilities and charger quality.

@nazsoogund If Tesla open Oxford to non-Teslas it would be huge. I saw two e-trons parked up trying to use it!

@nazsoogund On the outward trip we used Tesla Banbury as it’s open to non-Teslas. Cheaper than the Osprey next to it (55p vs 79p) and actually got 100kW. Best charging experience yet.

Does anyone *really* understand CORS? The amount of "allow everything" configuration I see in practice is concerning.

@au_tom_otive I think a weight-based levy makes more sense. Heavier vehicles do more damage to the road network so they should contribute more. Massive SUVs pay more than 3-door hatchbacks. Vans, trucks, lorries etc contribute the most.

Idle thought. Of course we’ll end up moving to some kind of usage-based tax for road vehicles, but we might also benefit from a tax based on net battery capacity. Would discourage larger/heavier vehicles if not needed and encourage smaller batteries with faster charging.

@au_tom_otive @GeorgeSandeman Range comparison with ICE vehicles is not a strong foundation to base a reasoned debate. Especially when they can be topped up in 5 minutes 🤭 without needing to turn coal power stations on to fill them up 🧐

@whoiskamil Thanks for the heads up - should be working again now. The latest version has no back-end code so is much more reliable (but cannot submit tests directly): requestmap.pages.dev

@JohnnyFocal @ali_ellis @cyclegaz If they do very well out of fines there must be many motor vehicles going through red lights. That's not quite the argument you thought it was.

@ali_ellis @cyclegaz Must be a very minor road as all main roads here in London have cameras and they do very well out of fines! Here you will see a cyclist jump the lights every few minutes, normally ploughing through predestines shouting get the F*** out of the way!

Quick question - if you have one of these smart gas meters, is it possible to check the balance online? Someone is claiming it's not possible, and I don't believe them.

@cyclegaz That wasn’t on Terrace Rd, Walton was it? A few of us came off last Sunday, one broken collarbone, one broken derailleur and lots of bruises. Glad you’re in ok shape in any case!

Came off yesterday on what I think was diesel. Took pretty much all of the crash on my elbow, luckily not broken or fractured. Bike damage is all to the group set from first look. Notice the twist of the seat post!

@aaronpeters @stoyanstefanov @stevey That has been picked up from webmentions photos. Odd that it chose me 🙂 Maybe it chooses a random image on the page if there is no meta image?
