Mon épouse a vécu en Afrique de l'Est et baragouine du swahili, et là-bas ils utilisent cette expression à tout bout de champ pour définir le système D, la petite ingéniosité du quotidien du mécano qui fait tenir sa solution avec un bout de ficelle et quelque prières. Ce n'est pas forcément péjoratif, au contraire, la débrouille et la solution qui tient à l'instant T sont valorisées dans le tiers monde ou rien ne fonctionne correctement. L'Occident et la France se sont construits sur le paradigme inverse : la rigueur, la norme, le travail bien fait et millimétré : la science et l'excellence. On a bâti des cathédrales et on a été sur la lune parce qu'on ne supportait pas l'à peu près. Un pont, un avion, une centrale nucléaire ne fonctionnent pas avec du rafistolage, et ont tenu toutes ces années parce qu'ils ont été conçus et maintenus en condition par des types à moustache pas très marrant. En parallèle, le socialisme a rendu le cout du travail légal et qualifié hors de prix, entre les charges patronales, les taxes et la raréfaction des compétences, appeler un professionnel est devenu un luxe inaccessible pour la classe moyenne. Nous sommes donc contraint au "Jua Kali domestique" : On bricole sa voiture, on répare au lieu de remplacer par du neuf, la débrouille s'intègre très bien au logiciel du Français qui commence à adopter cette mentalité et à l'appliquer à son travail. Si on mélange les deux, on se rend compte que ça ne va tenir longtemps : un Etat qui asphyxie les compétences de pointe par l'impôt, la bureaucratisation et un remplacement du peuple autochtone par le tiers monde, nous sommes dans une situation de danger à moyen terme : Un réseau électrique, une centrale nucléaire (et ses déchets qui seront stockés des décennies) ne se gèrent pas en mode "Jua Kali". L'approximation mène inévitablement au délabrement. Il y a énormément de signes avants coureurs de la catastrophe qui arrive qu'on ne remarque plus vraiment et auxquels nous sommes devenus habitués, des petits problèmes "pas si grave" qui ne devraient pas exister dans un pays comme le notre : Cet escalator du métro qui ne fonctionne pas depuis plusieurs jours, le seau en dessous de la fuite à Roissy en plein milieu du couloir qui traine depuis une semaine, le manque de rigueur du banquier ou du notaire qui foutent en l'air une opération commerciale, le migrant à moitié clochard qui emmerde le monde depuis des mois en bas ton appartement à 10.000€/m² sans que la police ou la justice ne fasse quelque chose... Combien de temps avant une réparation à la va vite sur un avion de ligne, avant que quelqu'un ne bâcle un contrôle de sécurité sur un réacteur nucléaire ? Notre société ne tient que grâce à l'intégrité de quelque travailleurs intègres, consciencieux et minutieux dans un océan de bricoleurs détachés qui s'en foutent de tout.

Across a broad range of measures its outcomes are better than the NHS. Very few take out Bupa-style health insurance.

@adamsummerton Yes and no. Eg the impact of over-tourism on Liverpool FC is now well established. Folks need to look beyond the top 15 clubs in the world. Then yes absolutely.

I’m so lucky I get to go to places like this as part of my job - but if you’re able to, go to as many games abroad as you can - experiencing the different football cultures is absolutely amazing. Lots of respect to Atleti & Barca, both were fantastic to visit 🇪🇸

@RBairner Literally a league with a single club in it funded by the Saudis ; in a good year they get one challenger. The rest of the league is poor. Unless they find a path to have a competitive league influx of money around the World is unlikely.

Ligue 1 isn't the Premier League. It doesn't benefit from the millions upon millions injected into it in TV revenue. In recent years, it's worked to make itself more nimble, reducing the size of the league to 18 teams but also scrapping the league Cup. This has been partially driven by a financial need, but one of the spin offs has been fixture flexibility. Unlike the Premier League, it's not in the thrall of television. French domestic football has to protect itself in a way that's unimaginable to Premier League clubs, whose income simply materialises simply by virtue of being in the league. It has to rail against constant 'farmer' accusations. If that means maxing out PSG in the Champions League and using their quality as an advertisement for Ligue 1, that's a path it's willing to take. My personal opinion, as I expressed previously on here, is that the Lens fixture shouldn't have been cancelled; it was too important a game in the context of the title race at the time and Lens were dead against it. But to make a sweeping statement that leagues shouldn't be flexible with domestic fixtures misunderstands the context of a league struggling financially and needing to take every opportunity it can to enhance itself.

The Green Party will not be able to run a balanced budget, therefore they will borrow and drive inflation, which raises the cost of things. They may choose to subsidise this through tax, because the billionaires will leave. This is not a defence of billionaires, this is a reality because wealth taxes have been tried and failed. I get the initial embarrassment etc, but ultimately relegation when you are 'big' club is effectively like having a one year sin bin. It's (sadly) inevitable that a club like Spurs will go back to being at the top end of the Prem in a year or two

You'll have one season in the championship, visit new grounds, win loads of games and come back with all your deadwood gone. It's really not that deep.
