Not that anybody asked, but in the time that has elapsed since the @NYKnicks last won a championship, we’ve discovered eight new Subatomic Particles. J-Psi Meson / Tau Lepton / Bottom Quark / Gluon / W-Z Boson / Top Quark / Tau Neutrino / Higgs Boson

@TheAthleticFC They are playing in a stadium that is 5k feet above sea level and high humidity and you complaining about players getting a break? Playing at that altitude is impossible to keep the pace. SMH casuals

Perhaps the only stain on Thursday’s curtain-raiser were FIFA’s newly-mandated “hydration breaks.” When FIFA announced the change, it said the breaks were for “player welfare,” but many fans saw through the spin and assumed the breaks would be used by broadcasters to show commercials. On Thursday, Fox, which holds the English-language U.S. broadcast rights, confirmed those fears. It not only cut away to advertisements; during the second half of Mexico-South Africa, its commercials ran long and caused viewers to miss several seconds of action after play resumed. The blunder sparked an uproar among longtime fans. Read @HenryBushnell’s full 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽 for free ⤵️ 🔗 bit.ly/4vI53Y7

@aldumancela @BeatinTheBookie You act like people missed anything. All they did was play replays and show players standing around. I wasn't aware that a goal was scored during the hydration breaks

Is the hydration break more for the players…or for the added TV commercials for FIFA?

@kenbensinger @watjalukinat I understand what you are saying and it is very valid, but i can assure you FIFA placing it mandatory is a good thing for the players. That's why most games have to be played in the afternoon and night time. The heat is unboreable during the peak time in the US during summer.

@suarez0227 @watjalukinat Obviously they make sense in cases of extreme heat or humidity but they don’t when it’s in a climate controlled stadium or not hot out. They do make sense for advertisers though

@kenbensinger @watjalukinat Yes but there is a valid reason. In MX the Stadium in Guadalajara is like 5k feet above sea level. It's almost impossible to run at that altitude and not suffer from hydration and exhaustion even at night b/c of how much humidity they have.

When the US tried to suggest bringing in 4 quarters for the World Cup in 1994 is was loudly rejected and absolutely ridiculed by everyone in football. They've learned their lesson and now they just call it water breaks and everyone is okay with it 😂

FIFA is mandating three-minute hydration breaks for all 104 World Cup matches. In Thursday’s opener, Fox cut to full-screen commercials during the breaks—and came back from one after play had already resumed. Telemundo said it won't follow suit.

@FanCovTeamUSA They do, but they're not normally scheduled like this. So yes, this is absolutely FIFA trying to make a buck. Same reason they said they might add extra minutes of stoppage time so the sponsors can get a little extra exposure

I genuinely find it funny that people who clearly don’t watch football think FIFA did a hydration break just to have an opportunity to make a quick buck to use an ad break. Hydration breaks happen every international match. #FIFAWorldCup

@alex_westry They don’t care about hydration at all, they just want to find ways to sneak more ad breaks in. If it was actually about hydration and safety it wouldn’t be so long. And getting tactical adjustments in at the quarter mark has never been part of the game.
