Sometimes we need more than ordinary speech to address the momentous events of our lives. But where ordinary words fall short, poetry begins—acting as a bridge between people and allowing us to see life from a different perspective. Starting today, we are launching a series of posts in recognition of World Poetry Day (March 21). They aim to invite listeners to engage with voices that shape memory, vulnerability, and hope. The cycle opens with the poetry of Iya Kiva from her collection, 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘺𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘓𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴, translated by Amelia Glaser and Yuliya Ilchuk, and introduced by Amelia Glaser. #HURIBooks #UkrainianLiterature #WorldPoetryDay #UkrainianPoetry @HURI_Harvard

Our second book in 2026 is SILENCE DRESSED IN CYRILLIC LETTERS by the brilliant Ukrainian-Jewish poet Iya Kiva (@sumriko). This collection is unique and very much deserving of your attention. Start reading it online or get your own hard copy of the book here: books.huri.harvard.edu/books/iya-kiva… The poems in this collection were masterfully translated by Amelia Mukamel Glaser (who also wrote an introduction) and YuliyaI lchuk. Striking design for the book cover (with "burning" printed edges) is by Anya Styopina. Andrii Kravchuk prepared the book design. Thank you SO MUCH to all of them! As always, I would like to thank those who have supported our work financially, as we wouldn't have been able to publish this and other books without their visionary and generous support. In particular, sincere thanks to: Ostap and Ursula Balaban; Jaroslaw and Olha Duzey; Vladimir Jurkowsky; Myroslav and Irene Koltunik; Damian Korduba Family; Peter and Emily Kulyk; Irena Lubchak; Dr. Evhen Omelsky; Eugene and Nila Steckiw; Dr. Omeljan and Iryna Wolynec; Wasyl and Natalia Yerega. @huribooks @HURI_Harvard @Harvard_Press #huribooks #ukrainianliterature

Here is my interview for Seán Timon and the Cherwell newspaper (the oldest student newspaper in Oxford, published since 1920) with the, one might say, Dantean headline "I don’t like the idea of hope". . cherwell.org/2026/02/16/int…

Athletes participating in the Olympic Games are not faceless instruments for measuring strength, speed and technical skill, but above all people who represent their countries and share the values of the people of their countries. Vladyslav Heraskevych's act is about dignity.

Do you even realize who was depicted on the helmet of banned Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych (@heraskevych )? They were Ukrainian athletes — women, men, and even children — who hoped to be part of the Olympic Games this year or someday in the future. But they never will be. They never stood a chance against Russian missiles. Vladyslav wanted to give them that chance — to carry them with him, to be their guide after death, and to honor their memory. Commemorating fallen athletes should have been among the most respected acts in the eyes of the International Olympic Committee. But not in a world shaped by injustice, Russian money, a loss of values and faith, a lack of dignity, and the absence of basic professional ethics. They told him to change the helmet and everything would be fine — to reject the memory of fellow athletes. He’d get his gold medal and the prize that came with it. After all, he had trained his entire life for this. But he chose dignity and values over a gold medal. This is how ancient legends were born in the past. Now they are returning to a world that has lost its soul. And these legends have Ukrainian faces. Athletes depicted on the helmet: 🖤 Alina Perehudova: Teenage weightlifter. 🖤Pavlo Ischenko: Boxer. 🖤Oleksiy Loginov: Ice hockey player. 🖤Ivan Kononenko: Actor and athlete. 🖤Mykyta Kozubenko: Diving athlete and coach. 🖤Oleksiy Habarov: Shooter. 🖤Daria Kurdel: Dancer. 🖤Dmytro Sharpar: Figure skater killed near Bakhmut. 🖤Yevhen Malyshev: 19-year-old biathlete killed near Kharkiv.

Оскільки я мала необережність запропопонувати цьогорічну фокус-тему Українському ПЕН - "Відчуття дому", а він мав необережність цю ідею прийняти, то ось мій рамковий есей на цю тему. pen.org.ua/vidchuttya-dom…

Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine. it is -21C. due to non-stop russian bombing lights are on for just several hours a day, but supermarkets, shops and cafes that have generators shelter stray/ lost animals so they don’t freeze to death. even faced with utter evil, Ukrainians chose kindness
