People who live in areas with plenty of turbines should benefit from lower bills and help to stop wasted wind adding costs for everyone. Good to see government moving forward with these important principles.
Department for Energy Security and Net Zero@energygovuk

Sometimes there is too much wind for our outdated grid to handle, especially in Scotland and the East of England. Rather than paying wind farms to switch off we’re trialling a new system where people who live near these constrained areas get cheaper - or even free - electricity.

@WilfredFrost True, Ukraine providing Drone kit & support 2 the USA in Iran. Additional missiles in UK that can take either route. Russia still has to get 🛢️ to a working refinery. Not sure how they are going 2 avoid the H straight that the USA Navy is sitting in.🤔

I specifically asked Sec Bessent about Russia benefiting from the Iran war earlier today. He said it was “inevitable” but “unfortunate”. Our full conversation available here: youtu.be/zq_L011kMLs?si…

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

.@POTUS is taking decisive steps to promote stability in global energy markets and working to keep prices low as we address the threat and instability posed by the terrorist Iranian regime. To increase the global reach of existing supply, @USTreasury is providing a temporary authorization to permit countries to purchase Russian oil currently stranded at sea. This narrowly tailored, short-term measure applies only to oil already in transit and will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government, which derives the majority of its energy revenue from taxes assessed at the point of extraction. President Trump's pro-energy policies have driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, contributing to lower fuel prices for hardworking Americans. The temporary increase in oil prices is a short-term and temporary disruption that will result in a massive benefit to our nation and economy in the long-term.

The Government’s Mandelson papers out today It’s a test for open government. Will they be easily searchable? Will the whole set be available so journalists/researchers can analyse themselves? Or will it be stitched up like a kipper? Crap search & no downloads? Place your bets

@tagware @g__j @LoftusSteve @edking_I Everyone gets R&D tax relief. It's not specific to oil and gas companies And carbon capture isn't an oil and gas initiative it's an Ed Miliband initiative that we're all going to pay for

Always worth reading past headline- thanks @edking_I Key point is that we need to reduce our dependency on gas through efficiency & electrification. Wind, solar, batteries good, nukes ok. While we do use gas, I'm happy if it comes from the N Sea rather than half way round world
Ed King@edking_I

Worth reading this @g__j piece beyond the misleading headline. @OctopusEnergy boss making case for energy diversification - renewables, batteries and 'not kid ourselves' that domestic / North Sea gas will cut bills.

@EvaVlaar @PM_ViktorOrban @vonderleyen Changing your mind after giving your word on the EU package. Is why it needs to stop. If his country doesn't want the EU funds then he can change his mind. But, I'm sure he will still want the money 💰

We’re at the point now where Zelenskyy is openly threatening @PM_ViktorOrban. This should be an immediate ground for the EU to suspend all support for Ukraine — and never to even as much as consider EU membership again. Has @vonderleyen condemned Zelenskyy’s comments yet?
Orbán Viktor@PM_ViktorOrban

President @ZelenskyyUa's threats are not about me. He is threatening Hungary. Unfortunately for him, he cannot stop me from protecting Hungarian families. 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺

Actually I only get paid for consulting work. Nobody paid me to produce these charts which you can also create from data provided by the LCCC Elexon, Ofgem and N2EX Oil and gas produced in the UK is massively taxed or have you not been following the news about the EPL?? Gas generators pay the exact same corporate taxes as renewables generators PLUS they pay carbon taxes Renewables generators get massive subsidies But don't let actual facts get in the way of your anti FF BS

@CoundleyRichard @g__j @edking_I Perhaps, you can look up at the increase in CO2 parts per million. 280 and have increased 420 in 2024 a 50% increase. It follows a S curve. Renewables are cheaper. Economics will drive transition and not the climate. Who knew 😏

@g__j @edking_I Slowly Greg Jackson's tune changes as the evidence becomes undeniable. How long before he accepts man made climate change is just an ideological belief. Maybe he will accept the NASA satellite data shows the world is not warming and increasing CO2 is greening the world.

@KathrynPorter26 @g__j @LoftusSteve @edking_I Obviously not being paid to by the oil and gas company.🤔 Do tell me if the fossil fuels pay anything back to the Government. They seem to like the Tax free environment.

Actually no, renewables are not an effective hedge against volatile gas prices Only at the height of the crisis did renewables pay anything back Only at the height of the gas crisis was gas higher than the realised CfD strike And in every year the amounts spent on gas for power generation dwarf CfD payments And this is without including the higher cost of grid infrastructure, balancing and backup for renewables

The astonishing determination of the fossil lobby is in the comments. Sure, solar doesn’t work when it’s dark (although storage is getting cheap) but when it’s light, surely anyone rational would rather get clean cheap power from solar than pay for shiploads of coal. And….
Kevin Holland@TheSolarShed

Never forget the reasons why the fossil lobby are digging in and getting dirty. They fear what we deliver. And so they should, we're only just getting started. solar-power.co.uk
