Libyan Asylum Seeker Denies Sexually Assaulting Teenager In Birmingham. A Libyan asylum seeker has been accused of sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl on a coach and today pleaded not guilty to the offences while clutching a Koran and crying in the dock. Walid Abdulbasit, 18, who arrived in the UK just 18 months ago and has been living under the care of Birmingham Children’s Trust, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court charged with sexual assault and indecent exposure. The attack took place on 18 February 2026, shortly after the coach left Birmingham for London. The 16 year old victim reported the sexual assualt to the driver immediately, forcing Warwickshire Police to arrest Abdulbasit at the M6 Junction 1 services. In court he wept, spoke through an Arabic interpreter, and was granted bail despite the horrific nature of the allegations. He will remain under the care of Birmingham Children’s Trust, meaning British taxpayers will continue supporting him for the next two and a half years until his trial in November 2028.
