Coworker is having a real dilemma. $1 for the tooth fairy seems too low, $5 seems way too high. What's a parent to do these days?

I block on sight groypers but getting to a point I block on sight anyone with "deus vult" stuff in their profile Let's be honest. You guys need permission from your wives to go golfing. You're not doing another crusade. You're doing the dishes and mowing the lawn.

There is no fixing this mindset. You're either trending toward 100% welfare participation like the communist below, or your trying to keep it as close to 0% as possible. Once a critical mass of communists forms, your nation is doomed.
Griddr 🇺🇸@griddr

@Bobini2 @thejohnfreeman @devahaz It never made sense to me that we piss off the people who pay all the taxes by excluding them from programs funded by taxes. It's their money anyway, let them participate. Everyone will be happier for it.

@devahaz That guy's answer to the problem is that we need to expand giveaways to everyone, from cradle to grave, with zero concern for cost or incentive to work. Just accelerating the downfall of this nation.

I think about this a lot with eldercare. If you have basically any assets or income, you get no help with nursing home or caregiver expenses. But spend all your money til you’re broke and all of a sudden you’re eligible to get it all paid. Such sharp discontinuity feels broken.

@InezFeltscher It’s probably not ideal for you to make this argument on the same day Trump is proposing cutting 10% of all discretionary spending in the budget in order to pay for this war
Marcus Stanley@MarcusMStanley

JUST RELEASED: Trump's 2027 budget proposal cuts non-defense spending by 10% while raising military spending by $445 billion or 42% to $1.5 trillion a year. We are headed for an even more profoundly militarized nation and world unless we change course.

Once again I am reminding you that this is an emotionally resonant but actually quite dumb argument. The restriction on the good life here at home in America is not money. We are not in a choice between guns and butter, and we spend incredible sums on both. The problem is not that we have a foreign policy, but that the ideology of the people spending the money at is twisted and retarded, and it goes for grants to left-handed LGBT blaq construction companies rather than towards anything useful.

Why I'm optimistic long-term, and this will go over the heads of some Any election, you're going to win some or lose some. Big picture trends though all are in our favor: -Cryptocurrency and decentralization -De-credentialization -3D printed weapons removes the state monopoly on force, especially in oppressive countries like Germany, the UK, Canada, or Australia, or other third-world nations -Free speech restored on social media -After decades of decline, male testosterone levels are now rising. Maybe it's TRT, but at least there is an awareness of this and now remedy -De-legitimization of the post-WW2 consensus and de-legitimization of neoliberalism; it is no longer considered anathema to state that some cultures are not compatible with each other; we are not compatible with Afghans who think that molesting boys in "bacha bazi" is normal or tolerable by cultural diversity All of these factors work in our favor. Any election you win some or lose some but macro trends favor us.

@Grunt2A @StraightLineUSA All you needed to get benefits was to lie. The VA process is completely unequipped to deal with liars. That 100% of the free-loading scammers are undeserving liars should piss you off the most.

It's another week so of course we have another VA disability leech on the Caleb Hammer show. This Asian twink gets 100% VA disability for "mental health" and "joint paint" which he says in the episode is from "having to wear heavy equipment once a month". Keep in mind he works a full time job making 200k per year and also has a side business where he helps other veterans "get their disability benefits" which means he helps other people commit fraud. End this insane program now and restart it with actual oversight. *Mutes post*

@JohnSmith410846 @chriswithans @GreenPlusAnE No one has ever "paid in" to Social Security. Biggest myth in the game. There have only ever been transfers from workers to retirees. In the beginning, the ratio was 12:1 and people were expected to die before retirement age. Now it is unsustainable.

@chriswithans @GreenPlusAnE Russ NEVER seems to understand the pay in part. Also NEVER acknowledges that we got in this cash flow predicament not because of “greedy” seniors but runaway deficit spending which ignored future obligations It’s like arguing with a parrot

@chriswithans She didn't "put in" anything. She paid for someone else's benefits, when the old age dependency ratio was 12:1. She paid $11.5k/yr and takes $60k/yr. Unsustainable. It's possible to criticize two things at the same time, by the way.

Yes. And many don't pay Social Security taxes, especially the higher-paid workers (teachers and police). But they advocate for increasing all taxes on the rest of us. And have the ear of politicians and the money from taxpayers to sell their ideas. This is also why it's maddening that some conservatives are obsessed that grandma is taking home more than $4000 a month at age 70 after working 45 years at or near the maximum Social Security contribution limit. She put in the 2026 equivalent of $20,000 a year of her own money for 45 years to get $5000 max at age 70. Oh joy.
Deva Hazarika@devahaz

About half of current NY government workers are already able to retire at 55 with full benefits after 30 years. This was changed to 63 after 2012. Unions went to roll back that change so everyone can retire at 55 and ALSO lower their pension contribution amounts.

@Duderichy Trump 1 had no difference, which suggests it's not as simple as "Trump is evil". All the other comments rushing to accept the conclusion unquestioningly don't even need to see the chart.

@Itsjoeco This is me. I called myself atheist for over 20 years. I still have deep-seated doubts. I went through baptism to get married. I attend Mass. We will try to send our children to Catholic school, and I hope they will not suffer the doubt that I must live with.

And there's nothing wrong with this whatsoever! Blaise Pascal talks about "fake it til you make it" converts in his Wager. Even if you're just going through the motions to avoid damnation or get some education, you may end up seeing something or someone that makes you a believer. "But at least learn your inability to believe, since reason brings you to this, and yet you cannot believe. Endeavour then to convince yourself, not by increase of proofs of God, but by the abatement of your passions. You would like to attain faith, and you do not know the way; you would like to cure yourself of unbelief, and you ask the remedy for it. Learn of those who have been bound like you, and who now stake all their possessions. These are people who know the way which you would follow, and who are cured of a disease of which you would be cured. Follow the way by which they began; by acting as if they believed, taking the holy water, having masses said, etc. Even this will naturally make you believe, and deaden your acuteness."

The obvious wealth and inheritance tax compromise is to just eliminate the inheritance tax entirely and have heirs inherit the original cost basis for anything they inherit. You inherit a home that's now worth $3 million? You should inherit the original $300,000 (or whatever) cost basis. In other words, let capital gains be uniform for everyone's assets.
