Trump got the ball rolling by calling out NATO in his first term for not honoring their spending commitments -- and the was 100% right. He's been right about NATO from the start -- it is not worth the effort and treasure on a "risk/return" basis. We asked to see a return re Iran and the Western NATO countries said "NO." Are their feelings hurt because he's said mean things to them. Who cares?
Jonah Goldberg@JonahDispatch

I agree with some of this directionally, but my God the refusal to acknowledge that Trump has worked assiduously to poison the alliance and heap all the blame on Europe is just water-carrying hackery. Saying "NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause" is like writing a movie review when you missed the first half of the movie.

The biggest issue right now is any act by the NCAA to set rules is challenged as an antitrust violation — which is why Congress needs to pass a bill giving an antitrust exemption for rules — but it’s stronger legal ground for NCAA to cite presidential authority than its own.

President Trump’s executive order on college sports is below. Three key provisions: 1. Five years of total eligibility 2. Only “one” free transfer without sitting. 3. No players can return from pros. Goes into effect on 8/1. Common sense & solid: whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…

@michaelbd @conor64 I often disagree with you, but not here. We have become wholly unreliable as an ally.

Often disagree with Mr Baker but not here. Europe committed to spend more on defense. Europe lowered its tariffs on American goods while we raised ours on theirs. We led on Ukraine then tossed it entirely to Europe on condition they buy our weapons rather than build their own defense industry. Now, our war means almost overnight different Europeans face 40-400 percent energy inflation.
Gerard Baker@gerardtbaker

Seriously Cliff? What happened to you? Military commitment to an alliance can obtain only in an atmosphere of trust . Do you think the non-US members of NATO have that sort of trust right now in the ally that says it wants to annex Canada and threatens to invade Greenland?

@dannarebb That’s understandable, and there is certainly a good chance she’ll be right. Insurance defense attorneys are more likely to be harsh with people who don’t have well documented injuries. Ganging up on someone who needed 4 surgeries can make them them look bad.

@twobru She’s been pretty concerned about the defense being “mean” and really interrogating her for months now, so I’m more thinking she wants practice for if that is the case. Her injuries are very well documented (she needed four surgeries), so I’m hoping they’re not too hard on her!

@smod4real We didn't watch the disaster at my school. But Mrs. Seidel confirmed the rumors while we were in library that day. We did watch the memorial service.

@dannarebb 2nd, she needs to be comfortable with saying "I don't know" if she doesn't know the answer to the question. She does not want to wonder off into the land of speculation, especially has it relates to medical issues on which she may have no training.

@dannarebb So your mom needs to make sure to only answer the question that has been asked. One way to remind her of that is ask her something like, "do you know what color my shirt is?" The reflexive answer is to say, it's blue or white. The correct answer is just yes.

@SixHealthOfFury @erichhartmann The illegal status belongs to the mother, not the child, and the 14th Amendment makes no reference to parents. Moreover, a person in the US illegally is still subject to its jurisdiction. If not, then the person couldn’t be arrested for committing a crime here.

@erichhartmann The word "and" is a continuation of thought. When alleged college graduates recite the constitution, they forget the AND in most sentences. It's born in the U.S. AND subject to it's jurisdiction. You can be born here AND fail to be subject to jurisdiction. Illegals aren't subject

I remember Columbia, not Challenger, but I think this is wrong. Teachers competed for Christa McAuliffe’s spot. There was a full court press on incorporating Challenger into elementary education. It wasn’t typical to watch a shuttle liftoff, but Challenger’s was intentionally broadcast to schools.
Dave W Plummer@davepl1968

99.9% of people who "experienced" the Challenger disaster saw it on replay and now remember it as live. Almost NO ONE was watching. Everyone thinks they were. It's a fascinating collective false memory.
