@adamwathan There doesn't have to be a dimensional trade off if you produce the background of the button with a pseudo element that you can inset to the bounds of the button.

👋🏻 Design friends — these buttons have a semi-transparent outer stroke designed to blend with the button's shadow, but even though it needs to be implemented as an outer stroke to blend properly, it visually kinda acts like a border. Should it be outside the layout, or inside?
