Is the action taken by this bishop considered inappropriate? This situation is inappropriate. Yes, the Bishop is wrong, and here’s why: It is not suitable for a Catholic Cleric to engage in sports/play of any kind while fully vested, as liturgical vestments like the chasuble and stole are sacred symbols set apart for divine worship, not for secular use. Canon Law 1171 emphasizes the need for reverence toward sacred objects, and wearing them during sports risks causing scandal. It diminishes the significance of acting in persona Christi and treats the holy as common. While a priest may wear a cassock or clerical attire during recreation, vestments should be removed after Mass before engaging in any physical activity the sacred belongs at the altar. 7 years ago, this church in Niger state, Nigeria, was abandoned due to the territory being inhabited by terrorists.
7 years later, the first mass was celebrated this week by our SMA missionary and with the villagers, giving them opportunity to hear the gospel again after so many years.
God bless the SMA!

Still not over that “Igbo by penetration” statement and the fact many of you don’t see the issue with it is even more troubling.
