I'm working on a Custom GPT for a first level evaluation of case studies. Are there any designers that would be open to participating in usability testing for it? Sign up here: forms.gle/1rNWKfo1ombF9p… #ux

A senior Google engineer just dropped a 421-page doc called Agentic Design Patterns. Every chapter is code-backed and covers the frontier of AI systems: → Prompt chaining, routing, memory → MCP & multi-agent coordination → Guardrails, reasoning, planning This isn’t a blog post. It’s a curriculum. And it’s free.

The market for start-up design talent has never been more competitive. I’ve had half a dozen companies ask me recently, “how do I get a great founding designer?” Folks, if you are not already bosom buddies with great designers, you’re gonna need to put out a beacon that attracts top talent: 1. Tell a compelling, true story about your ‘why.’ Make a page dedicated to this. Make your story come alive as only you can. Anyone with ChatGPT can write a generic sounding req about competitive benefits and rocketship grow opps. Write about a problem and vision that is wildly ambitious yet deeply personal to you. 2. Express that you “get” the importance of design. This is your ‘proof of work’ that you will value the person that you hire, for ex (not limited to): a. Your page / app / website show attention to detail and care for the experience b. Your description of the job shows a deep understanding of what good design means (do your research here). c. You talk about design work that you admire or find aspirational. d. You have design-forward people on your cap table (ie @designerfund, @soleio, @karrisaarinen, @rsg, @tobi, etc) Ofc easier said than done, but the key is to put some effort into standing out as an incredible environment for designers to do their best work.

Hahaha… Chat GPT prompt after uploading a photo. "Draw an action figure toy of the person in this photo. The action figure should be full-figure and displayed in its original blister pack packaging. On top of the box is the name of the toy 'Patrick Neeman' across a single line of text. In the blister pack packaging, next to the figure, show the toy's accessories, including uxGPT as a red book. Add a glass of whiskey with ice."

On the eve of Presidents' Day, it's important to note that we're living in unprecedented times. I had an insightful conversation with someone who immigrated from Africa in the past eight years and was watching our current situation with a certain level of curiosity. One thing he said was that every couple of years, there is a reset button—and that is a good thing. Most African countries do not. We elect new senators and members of Congress who have the potential to change the balance of power, and you start to see the change a year before the election. If there is an overstepping of bounds, our representatives will start stepping in during November and December because the elections are coming soon—especially if the electorate notices. They say different things, do different things, and more importantly, they'll listen. They are starting to notice, even with the speed of the current change. It really is the democracy experiment, and the experiment needs adjustments every once in a while. This might be one of those times. That's why we have amendments — to change the rules to better fit the values of the country. That includes the elimination of slavery, increasing voting rights, and solidifying citizenship laws. Change happens, but with a lot of thought. There is short term pain, but this will make our country stronger. I can't wait for the reset button.

no one under 30 should be a designer at Google. there i said it. but seriously this Google Photos redesign is abysmal. ya gotta have some more understanding of your userbase before you just go and add another level of hierarchy. it's too high brow for the normies.

We’re seeing a growing trend of companies moving to full-time return-to-office. While I don’t completely agree with how some are implementing it, I respect their right as organizations to determine their working culture and attract talent that aligns with it. Businesses have the privilege of crafting their own work environments, and as workers, we have the right to choose the cultures we’re willing to embrace. We can analyze study after study on the pros and cons of remote, hybrid, and in-office setups, but ultimately, businesses will shape their workplaces to meet their needs. Of course, as the saying goes, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics — data can be misused to suit specific narratives. Companies will proceed in the way they believe works best for them. Some businesses succeed as fully remote organizations because it helps them attract a larger talent pool they’re seeking. Others thrive with hybrid or fully in-office setups, and that works too. Personally, I prefer hybrid having worked mostly remote for the last 7 years. I enjoy being around colleagues, even those outside my immediate organizational structure, because of the insights I gain about the company as a whole. That connection is invaluable to me. At the end of the day, it’s up to each of us to decide which working culture suits us best. Companies will continue to adapt their approaches based on what aligns with their goals and attracts the talent they need.

As much as designers and product managers love to talk about process, the truth is the best teams reduce process to what they truly need to work together. Process is really people creating a shared contract through give and take. #ux #pm #process
