Everyone is talking $VOO and chill while I like $FXAIX and forget. I must be the only investor under 30 still believing in mutual funds… Plus $FXAIX’s expense ratio is lower than $VOO’s 🌚

Cleaning up the portfolio of a family friend I helped leave an asshat advisor at a large bank & I was especially grossed out by a position in this Kaufman Small Cap Fund that is underperforming $IWM by 60% over 5 yrs + has a 2% Expense Ratio. Check in with your peeps y'all.

Financial planning can be so fun. Right now I'm working on a plan for a retired client of mine who is worth above $25mil Talking: - Roth conversions (paired with a DAF contribution to offset it) - Asset location (parking higher growth assets in Roth and fixed income in pre-tax) - GRATS to get more out to their kids without using any exemption - QCD's for when they get there - Irrevocable trust planning since they are very young and close to the $30mil already - private equity investments - lots of capital gains and income tax planning The value for these types of clients is unreal You should have a great, coordinated team at this net worth level

A really funny convo from substack: “You don’t know what you’re talking about… the big 3 do great work.” Googled him. He blogged: “In Defense of the Ratings Agencies” December 2007

Let's be real. If you are investing 50%+ into your future, who cares how much you spend on your car.

@TheDrewFeldman What good reason is there for it to be positioned primarily as an accumulation strategy? Obviously within the right context it could have benefits (ILITs/etc.), but as an outright accumulation vehicle is there any scenario where this would be the best option? Genuinely asking

I can’t stand it! If you’re putting a client into an IUL as a wealth-building strategy, you better have a damn good reason. In most cases it’s an expensive, opaque, commission-heavy product sold for the benefit of the insurance agent. For the average household trying to build wealth, it’s usually the wrong tool and it can damage lifetime wealth beyond repair.

@MrJulius007 I thought the point was that the insurance companies are investing customer deposits into private credit and the private credit bubble bursts no?

@JonLuskin How many years left on the mortgage? Risk tolerance? What’s retirement cash flow look like? Taxable account balances? Are they going to be doing conversions when they retire? I’d talk through both sides with them but often times I’d say mortgage payoff

Curious what everyone here thinks about this one: -In their 50s -11 years from their targeted retirement date -6.25% mortgage rate -Tax-advantaged accounts (401(k), etc.) are already maxed out for the year -Not itemizing before mortgage interest

I enjoy painting. I’m OK at it. It’s therapeutic and it scratches a certain OCD scratch I have. Maybe a small room or bathroom here or there. But when we wanted to paint our entire downstairs this summer, we hired a professional and got out of their way.

@saylor @WatcherGuru Considering that there’s roughly $2T wagered per year on online gambling, and there’s a roughly $2T btc market cap, its still kind of accurate

Owning 1 stock that represents a large portion of your portfolio can be incredibly stressful on multiple levels. ICYMI, I've been creating custom Canva visuals that outline various strategies for dealing with this exact situation. Below are the 9 visuals I've published so far:
