But after looking at how the system is actually designed, I realized it’s less random chaos and more a structured distribution game. So here’s my beginner-friendly write-up (mostly as notes to myself, but sharing for anyone new). 1) Pack opening isn’t just luck. it’s a distribution From an individual perspective, any single pack is random. But at the system level, packs are built around a tiered value distribution different price/value ranges are intentionally layered to form a predictable curve. That’s why it’s more accurate to think: What value band am I most likely to land in? instead of Will I get lucky this time? 2) The key concept: there’s exactly ONE jackpot card This is the part that changes everything. In each pack pool, there is one single top-tier jackpot card. Not very rare, not low odds. Literally one. That matters because This card often has extreme FMV (sometimes 10–20× pack price or more) It’s the main source of true upside that makes the overall EV feel viable And crucially once someone pulls it, the pool instantly becomes less attractive for everyone else So there’s a real early vs late dynamic Early opens have full upside available Late opens might be opening after the crown is already taken 3) After jackpot, everything else follows tiers Excluding the jackpot, the rest of the pool tends to fall into tiers based on FMV. The way I mentally categorize it Tier S / A = real upside (big hits that change your session) Tier B = buffer zone (mid value, tradeable, EV stabilizer) Tier C / D = base layer (most common outcomes, liquidity/volume layer) The important mindset shift for me was: C/D isn’t a failure it’s the floor of the distribution. The system needs a floor to function. 4) Opening isn’t the end the decision after the reveal matters Once the card is revealed, you basically choose between two paths Option 1) Instant Buyback You sell it back instantly and recover around ~90% of FMV. Why this matters It turns low-tier pulls into recyclable liquidity It reduces waiting/market execution risk It makes pack opening feel less like dead outcomes and more like capital rotation This is usually best for Tier C/D (and often B, depending on your plan) Option 2) Mint & Sell on the Marketplace You mint the card on-chain and list it manually. This is usually best for Jackpot / Tier S / Tier A because these are the ones where you may want full FMV (or even a premium) and buyback’s ~90% discount hurts more 5) My beginner rules (to avoid emotional play) Here’s what I’m trying to follow as a new participant: Don’t judge the system by one pack. The upside (especially jackpot logic) only makes sense across a batch, not a single open. Use buyback for low tiers to keep capital moving. Treat Tier C/D as liquidity tools, not as losses. If I hit A/S (or jackpot), mint and decide with the market in mind. That’s where selling strategy actually matters. Final takeaway Pack opening looks like gambling on the surface, but structurally it’s closer to Jackpot = defines the upside Lower tiers = define liquidity + EV smoothing Buyback = guarantees an exit Strategy = determines whether variance helps you or hurts you If you play packs emotionally, you donate EV.
