I’ve been through a lot of tragedy in my life but nothing, absolutely nothing hits like getting betrayed by someone close to you

No one should defend teachers. After I graduated half my schools faculty was fired for making fun of students in the workplace messaging app. They pulled the messages after one of them accidentally cc’d the principal on an email talking shit about his son, a student. Worst people

@Empty_America My PSAT score puts me above 125 and I had problems with certain teachers. Milder versions of what I’m seeing on here but only by degree. The disruptive kids were lighting up in class though

At my kid's school, the gifted program cut off is 125IQ, and they use a real test to determine this. So I know who the 125IQ+ kids are, and honestly none of them are disruptive or problematic in any way, none are disliked by teachers. Many are shy, "odd" or anxious however.

My annual exhortation: You, reader in the tech industry, should have plural million dollars of term life insurance coverage outside of that offered through employer. You should also strongly consider own-occupation long term disability insurance.

What’s currently cooking the brains of every smart AI booster is the idea that if LLMs autocomplete good enough, then that magically becomes something different in kind. But there’s no evidence for this. It’s just breathlessly asserted over and over again on the basis of thought experiments.

Just tell the relevant people what they need to know, there is no need to run this massive fear-mongering campaign and scare the shit out of my grandma Imagine if military contractors did this "Bro if we used our new drone on you, nobody would even know where you went. You would just evaporate. You are so lucky we aren't droning you, you're so lucky we're good people who aren't evaporating you with drone mounted lasers bro. Because we're such good fucking people" Marketing yourself by scaring a bunch of people who can't do anything about it is sort of an asshole move. There's a reason other companies don't do this, and it's not because you guys are the only ones who make anything dangerous

I was talking with a coach at my gym who preps IFBB athletes. During the conversation I pulled up the classical pathway of steroidogenesis to explain something (not even the backdoor or the C11-oxy pathway), and he goes: “wow, your diagram looks complicated…”

Exogenous testosterone suppresses LH and FSH, which reduces intratesticular testosterone and lowers endogenous steroidogenesis. This affects not only testosterone production but also upstream steroids such as pregnenolone, progesterone and DHEA, which serve as substrates for neurosteroids. Neurosteroids depend on these pathways and on local enzyme activity. They influence GABA signaling, stress response, mood, sleep and aspects of sexual function. Changes in their production or in their distribution can contribute to symptoms observed on TRT. hCG and SERMs stimulate LH/FSH signaling, but they do not fully restore the original intratesticular environment. Enzyme activity and local conversion rates remain altered, so the distribution between pathways (androgens, estrogens, neurosteroids) differs from baseline. Aromatase inhibitors reduce estradiol production, shifting the balance between testosterone, DHT and estrogen-dependent pathways. SERMs modify receptor signaling without normalizing tissue-level balance. Dopamine agonists reduce prolactin when elevated but act downstream and do not restore upstream steroidogenesis. Steroidogenesis is a branching pathway regulated by substrate flow and enzyme competition. Intervening on one hormone shifts the distribution across others. Outcomes depend on how production and conversion are distributed across the network, not only on serum testosterone levels.

What are the most remote "localities" in the lower 48 where a person could plausibly buy a home and live? I can think of Elk City Idaho and Beaver River NY, Jarbidge NV is also often mentioned in these conversations. What do you think?
