Are you working psychotherapeutically in a residential setting ? What an interesting and valuable resource TC Elders initiative is. You don't have to be a therapeutic community staff member to benefit from their knowledge and experience Last week, @wolvercoteman and me were joined by David Kennard, @paget_sarah , Tom Harrison, and Victoria/Vicki for an in-depth conversation about the evolution of Therapeutic Community (TC) Elders and the essential role of the PET Archive in preserving therapeutic community history. Listen as the guests share how the monthly TC Elders meetings provide a safe and predictable space for mentorship, mutual support, and reflection, reaching practitioners internationally. The conversation covers the origins of the elders group, the importance of a living archive for capturing memories and ideas, and the powerful impact of supporting professionals in challenging settings such as prisons and mental health care. This episode sheds light on the current challenges facing therapeutic communities, from institutional changes to the ongoing threat of individualism and fragmentation in care. Learn how you can participate in or benefit from these supportive networks, and why these collaborative, relational approaches remain vital across sectors. 🚨 Why do high-profile scandals like the Epstein files hit so hard? Because they force us to confront the devastating reality that institutional abuse is not confined to headlines—it echoes through countless, often unheard, lives. On the latest episode of the @LockedUpLiving podcast, @wolvercoteman and me speak with @hinchliffe1569 , a survivor of the notorious Grafton Close children’s home, who shares his fight for accountability and the harrowing failures of those meant to protect the most vulnerable. From the institutional denial and cover-ups Keith Hinchliff faced, to the disturbing lack of empathy from local authorities, this conversation powerfully echoes the systemic failures revealed in cases like Epstein’s. It's a reminder that for every well-publicised scandal, there are countless survivors still denied justice—sometimes even basic acknowledgment. As we discuss, when society can’t listen to these truths, we can't hope to fix what's broken or make things safer for generations to come 17:14. The more we understand, the harder it is to look away—and the more we can push for meaningful change. #InstitutionalAbuse #CSA #GraftonClose #RichmondCouncil #Survivor #EpsteinFiles #Safeguarding #JusticeMatters#ChildProtection #MakeChangeHappen Look for Locked Up Living wherever you get your podcasts or via the links in the comments.

As recent inquiries and media reports expose the scale and depth of historical and ongoing child abuse cases, @wedger_jon discusses the obstacles faced when trying to bring perpetrators to justice and the persistent resistance to addressing these crimes effectively with @wolvercoteman and I. The conversation covers the creation of the “Voice for the Voiceless” campaign, the role of institutional denial, and urgent lessons for safeguarding today. With the country focused on accountability, survivor support, and real change, this episode provides an unfiltered look at how these failures happened—and what still needs to be done. Essential listening for those working in social care, criminal justice, policy, or anyone concerned with child protection and reform. Remembering my mum today who was 59 when she passed. Alexander just eight months old at the time. 32 years later and I still remember when I could speak to her half a dozen times a day. Laughing, crying, quarrelling, seeking her words of wisdom and unwavering love. I know she would have been proud of her grandson. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who still miss your mum everyday.

As headlines from Iran continue to dominate the global news cycle—with stories of protest, resilience, and complex geopolitics—the impact of reporting from conflict zones feels particularly urgent. In our latest episode of Locked Up Living, we welcome Crispin Thorold, a British-Canadian former BBC foreign correspondent and international communications specialist, whose career has spanned more than 40 countries including 6 war zones. Drawing on his time in the Middle East and regions marked by trauma and violence, Crispin Thorold offers candid insights into what it means to bear witness in times of conflict, the emotional toll on journalists, and the challenge of telling human stories when the world’s attention is both fleeting and polarized. The episode also explores how today’s news landscape—from traditional reporting to algorithm-driven feeds—shapes our collective response to crisis, and what happens when ‘news’ becomes overwhelming. Whether you’re following the situation in Iran with a heavy heart or seeking to understand how international reporting truly works behind the scenes, this @LockedUpLiving conversation, hosted by @wolvercoteman and I, offers perspective on trauma, duty, and the cost of staying informed. What can we personally take from Laurence Willis’s brave story on this week’s Locked Up Living Podcast? His honest account of trauma, memory, and recovery is full of insight—not just for those with similar experiences, but anyone seeking self-understanding or supporting others. A few key takeaways for all of us: · Self-awareness is a journey. Laurence Willis discovered triggers in his parenting he’d never recognized—reminding us growth often begins with discomfort and feedback. · Being kind to yourself matters. Healing isn’t linear or logical. Memories return in fragments, and it’s okay if progress feels slow or uncertain. · You are not alone. Struggling to reach out doesn’t reflect weakness—many people find it almost impossible to ask for help in their darkest moments. · Rebuilding is possible. Even after immense pain, Lawrence Willis found new purpose, showing that hope can return gradually, sometimes in unexpected ways. If you, or someone you know, is navigating trauma or supporting survivors, this episode will deepen your understanding and empathy. Let’s normalize real conversations about recovery—so no one feels they have to endure in silence. 🔗 Tune in for the full episode and join the Locked Up Living community as we explore the realities of healing and growth after trauma.
